A Mantel of Aluminum

Don't fall over but yes I accomplished a post two days in a row.  Don't get used to it either.
Since I hauled out the box of tin just yesterday this is a follow-up for what I did with the stuff.

Half the box of stuff is now on my mantel.  The mantel that for the past three weeks had nothing but dust on it.  Don't worry, the dust is still there, I didn't do anything drastic like clean it it off.

The letter holder is now displaying my mom's Primer, from 1927.  For you youngsters, a primer is a book to learn reading.  It's really worn and faded and I love it.

BBQ tongs.  Really looooong ones.  Used for short people to reach farther.  Like to hang a galvanized letter "R" on the mantel.

One mantel down, two to go.  If I get really ambitious I might do the master bedroom mantel for Valentines Day.  But probably not.

  18. You lucky girl...all that fabulous aluminum to choose from...and the primer (yes, I knew what it was...after all, I AM a woman of "a certain age") is perfect. I'm thankful that you didn't post naked photos of your mantel. I like to keep my blog viewing "PG13" at least until after I've had my coffee! xo

  19. Love the mantel. Great job of displaying your aluminum!! I feel the same way about the dust. You clean it off and it just keeps coming back.:D And posting two days in a row. Oh girlfriend you are amazing. I've missed a bunch of posts I guess as I'm so far behind on my email.

Wanted to share with you that I'll be on NBC's Today Show next Friday, Feb. 1st around 8am-8:30am. I won one of three spots in their chicken wing contest. Ha...I've only made wings twice in my life and once was for this contest. But they are different and killers. Look forward to 'seeing' ya. Luv ya girl!! Nann

Lovely! One thing (of the many things...) about our new house I am looking forward to is having mantels! Three of them. Ohhh the possibilities. I have several of my grandmother's primers. We love them - the stories are quite amusing too. We write "children's books" so different now.

  25. Prettyyyyyy!!! They look fabulous in their new home.

  29. I love that collection used in mass on your mantel like that! That looks great. I think it's nice to have a mantel with some sort of intent instead of just random things placed up there. Glad you explained what a primer was. I didn't know. Guess I am a youngster and didn't know it! LOL!

  30. I love your mantel display. I have a small addiction to serving pieces. You just gave me an idea. Have a great weekend.

I thought i was the only person east of the mississippi to collect hammered aluminum. Guess not. I keep mine on top of a cabinet in the guest bathroom. No room left on the mantel.

  38. You are spoiling us. The mantel looks great. I am sure your pieces are happier on the mantel than tucked away in your dark basement.

  39. It looks fantastic with your river rock. I have never seen such unique pieces like you have in your collection. I would bet this stuff gets very popular now with all the gray tones in decorating. You better hang on to that stuff. It might be good as gold.

Wow, what a lovely collection! I liked the big round one at the back on the left hand side, it would be the perfect size for pizza but I don't think it was ment for that!

  48. Wait, so is dust not an acceptable mantel decoration? That's all I've had since Christmas. Well, that and random toys moved out of reach of babies. The tin is beautiful!

  49. I love that! I have some of that aluminum stuff that I can't GIVE away in my booth! Look how nice that looks! I need to steal this pic and put it with my aluminum display! Love it!
