Lets Play Kitchen

When I was a little girl, play time was usually all about being a mommy.  I never played lawyer and can't talk about those times playing doctor.

I loved dolls, playing house or going to the pretend store.  I have all my old dolls, they are pretty scary and hidden under my bed.  Any with curly hair got a hair cut.

The play food was really tiny back then too.  If I'd of eaten that size portion all my life there would never have been any discussions with my thighs about their girth.

I think I need to find an old armoire and convert it into a play store like this one from  Inspired Whims....

For the past year I've been pinning ideas to my Kid Stuff Pinterest board of cute play kitchens, with the intention of making one for a certain 3 year old.


I think the collection of ideas on my board is PDC.... pretty darn cute.  My kid stuff board is a favorite, right up there with the Junkers United board and my Creative Furniture board.

This kitchen from Holly at Life as a Thrifter convinced me that whatever version I decide on, it MUST have a fridge.

At every thrift store or garage sale last summer, I eyed up old entertainment centers and night stands wondering if they fit the bill for my vision of conversion.

This nightstand redo from Bubblestitch Quilts inspired me to look for a similar nightstand.  I found two at a garage sale and if I go this route I will challenge myself to fit in every feature I really like, just on a smaller scale.  A window in the oven is also on my list of must haves.

Gail at My Repurposed Life worked on her play kitchen below till she had it just how she wanted it.  She used several pieces of furniture and combined them in this build.  Is that fantastic or what?!?!

You guys can laugh at me, but..... I think I want a career in building/upcycling old furniture into play kitchens.  I love them all.

While those are some of my favorite kitchens, the one most likely to be built before summer is this outdoor one from Prodigal Pieces......

I'm a mud pie maker from way back, and not only would a certain 3 year old be thrilled to whip up some muddy entrees, but a certain 6 year old would likely join her to wallow in the mud.

When I saw that counter of mud pie making awesomeness my first thought was WHY OH WHY didn't I think of that years ago!  I absolfreakinglutely love it!  I think we will have to keep it by the hose for a quick rinse off of bodies and utensils.

I've even added metal ware to my list of items to hunt down at garage sales.
