Coming soon to a dining room near ME........
"The Transformation Begins".
You probably don't know, (but I'm about to tell 'ya) that I started blogging a year ago with the intention of redoing my dining room. Lots of pine was really in need of an update.
It took a year but the dining room is now sporting some new paint, two shades to be exact.
Sherwin Williams Perfect Greige and the darker Spalding Grey.
Around these parts I'm pretty well known for not being able to pick paint colors. I suppose when you end up repainting a room three colors in the course of two days, the reputation is deserved.
So what did I do this time to get it right on the first roll? I gave Brawn a handful of several variations and let him pick. Of course I had someone else narrow those variations down for me, {thanks Kimberly}, so really I didn't pick any of the color, and that's why we only had to paint once.
I wanted something warm that complimented all the stones in our house. I would love to pull together more of a cottage look, but I don't see that happening. Depending on the lighting, the Spalding Grey can be more of a grey tone or brown - same with the greige.
We (Brawn) also painted the trim white. He sacrificed his back for mine.
He is also a master paint tray craftsman.......
No paint tray? No problem! Just cut an antifreeze jug in half and dip in your roller.
The paint's really been hitting the walls around here. While this was going down, daughter #2 was painting her room, and son #3 was painting the boys bathroom.
Everyone must have Winter fever, that's the kind that makes you delusional from being cooped up and you pretend it's Spring.
I like both paint colors...gray is the new white and I'm happy to see it more. Now I'm excited to see the rest of your room! Great tip on the paint tray!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Bliss!
XO,
JAne
I have things on my to do list, too, that have lingered on much longer than I ever would have considered possible. I love your painter's tray tip. Sadly, I don't have many antifreeze jugs laying around :). I love the gray paint especially with the white and the stone.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great! Hopefully the weather will stay just bad enough that you want to stay inside and finish it all!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those 2 colors together - can't wait to see the whole transformation!
ReplyDeletewhat it. those paint fumes are known to make us do strange things.
ReplyDeleteThe grey and white look really pretty with the stone. Looking forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteJeanette @ Creating a Life
Davy Jones would have loved that color.
ReplyDeleteOh boy I can't wait to see it. I love the wall color with the stone, very pretty.
ReplyDeletePainting is on my to do list but it will have to wait until spring (real spring) I need to be able to open my doors! :) Your room is looking so nice! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteHugs
So far, so gorgeous! I'm still working on my kitchen redo. Can't believe how easy it is to get sidetracked - like now...
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I have painting to do today too! My first Saturday off that doesn't involve a craft fair or a snow day...not exactly sure where to start... I can't wait to see your dining room when it's all done!
ReplyDeleteDang, you got the whole fam on board! I can't ever seem to accomplish that -- kudos! Love the shades of gray, esp with your stone. Now get back to it!
ReplyDeletexo Heidi
The two colors are beautiful ~ especially with the stone. I love the white trim too ~ it really pops!
ReplyDeleteNow, what kind of Kool-Aid did you mix & have the kids drink? :)
xo

I see you've thrown down the gauntlet with this post. I forewarned Mike that we will be installing the board and batten this weekend -- and to prove my point have a dining room table filled with pre-cut lumber that the nice folks at Menards cut for me (for free!) yesterday. I also told him that tonight we're ordering in Chinese since the dining room will be otherwise preoccupied with nail guns and caulk ...
ReplyDelete:) Linda
Well, isn't THIS a lovely way to start my Saturday...right after I made a cup of coffee and sat down to see what you've been up to....
ReplyDeleteOH. MY. GOSH!!!! YOU PAINTED!!!! ALL of "YOU" apparently! Now I really AM jealous that I wasnt't there to see the PERFECT Greige go up...and the white trim...and the antifreeze jug roller tray. Can I PLEASE come to live with you? I'll paint my own room! xo, Kimberly
As usual when you take on a project...you go all the way...heavens! Not painting just one room but nearly the whole house...crazy woman.
ReplyDeleteI am a retired painting contractor, (had my own company), and I always found painting my own 'stuff' was much more difficult that for others. It took me forever to pick colors, as a matter of fact I got it in my head that I wanted to paint all the trim in my house....again, in a different color..the samples are still taped to the trim, a year later. Ha!
Oh the color is just right for me....who is a neutral queen, except for my kitchen. Brawn's tip is genius!
ReplyDeletei am not usually a grey is not usually my thing, but i think it works perfect here. I love it especially with the stone work. that was the hardest for me was picking out a color that complimented our stonework!
ReplyDeleteOh I love those colors...I find it very hard to pick colors, too. Which explains why I am still looking at kitchen cabinets in 5 different colors...
ReplyDeleteSO fresh and pretty! Great colors!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I feel like all my work has been accomplished for the weekend!
ReplyDeleteYes, I live vicariously thru you, Brawn and the crew.
That's why you call yourself Bliss- I would too if I had a hubby that helped!
Great color with the white trim, and yes you would be pretending it's spring if you live in Minnesota!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the color! I'm suppose to paint a pita wall this weekend. Tongue and groove board, hard to paint with a roller. :(
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the rest of the makeover Bliss !
gail
Can't wait to see it! Paint is in the air!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful, love how that color changes with the light from gray to almost a tan! Can't wait to see your room done!
ReplyDelete~Pendra
Those colors are AWESOME! Oh, I cannot wait to see the reveal!!!!
ReplyDeleteHa! You are putting yourself out there by setting a date for completion. We all know how well that worked out for me. I've now learned to add 2-3 years to any project time estimation, and I'm spot on.
ReplyDeleteYour walls and trim are looking spiffy! I've decided that when we reach a certain age, our brain cannot commit to color. White, off-white, biege, gray, griege. Those are our choices. But it's a "good thing", right? That's what I'm thinking, and my remaining colored walls will soon be history. SOON being a relative term on the Range. Happy painting!
Love the color!
ReplyDeleteThe color goes perfectly with the stones...I know it will be gorgeous when the room is done......what was that date again? I'll put it on my calendar and make sure I announce it on the blog...you know, so people can go right over and see the reveal .......
ReplyDeleteWow... it looks wonderful with your stones - which you know I love. Brilliant idea for the paint tray too! I have the same "WE" that works at our house! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - Brawn has Brains too!!! What a brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous so far Bliss - wow your home is beautiful ( from the little peaks you let us have now and then )
XOX
What a great idea for the paint tray!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
LOVE the colors, and I love the greys from SW. I happen to have three of them in my house and looking at one as I type. Coolio trick on the paint tray, antifreeze, cool, get it????
ReplyDeleteDid you get the photo I sent you? I am thinking not. Let me know and will send again.
So glad you had someone to turn to for your color decisions and that you had the Winter blues to help you get the kids moving. Sounds like things are getting done around there.
ReplyDeleteLiz
You can't go wrong with those colours. Any decorator would tell you to keep the walls neutral and add the colour with accents. So far, I'm loving what you're doing, so get it all done and show us!
ReplyDeleteWell aren't you the brilliant one?! Love your paint tray! Can't wait to see the whole room. Tell Brawn he screwed up on the trim... I'm kidding! Looks fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous color combo Bliss! I love your 'paint tray'. I used an old lasagna pan. In this house I've got plenty more :)
ReplyDeletePainting inside when it's cold outside seems like a good thing to do. Much better than in the summer when you'd rather be outside. Your sneak peek of the dining room looks great! Clever use for a paint tray too. Hope you got all the antifreeze out first. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLooks truly fabulous! Painting rooms must be a winter fed activity...we've been at it too. Love "your" color choices. I've been known to be fickle with wall paint so I can relate to your dilemma/affliction! Can't wait to see the completed room.
ReplyDeleteMy MIL is seriously debating between both of these colors. So weird. I like them both... a lot!
ReplyDeleteLove the sneak peek, both color tones are very designer look yummy. I think a great choice with the rocks...and I love rocks...so a little jealous. Really looking forward to the full revel, what color did your daughter choose? Happy Painting want to come and finish the 3 walls in our bedroom and the upstairs bathroom and my hubbys office....but we did get the living room done all the way to the top 25ft up
ReplyDeleteagain kudus to you guys and the white trim is so crisp
Love that paint tray!! The colors are gorgeous against the white trim! Come on now..don't leave us hanging! We never seem to paint in the winter, it's more of spring or fall project for us (by us, I mean the hubs).
ReplyDeleteThat color is beautiful! I love it! I've been pondering using a grey tone in my master bath. Do you think it would be a bad idea in a bathroom? And thanks for the paint tray idea! Clever! :)
ReplyDeleteHello Julia. Drop me an email, you showed up as a no reply blogger and I could not locate your email on your blog.

Love the color combo! Can't wait to see more. And that Brawn is a keeper, good looking, handy & clever :)
ReplyDeleteOh la la! Tres chic!
ReplyDeleteOh my!
ReplyDeletethis looks absolutely dreamy! Oh yes.
I got turned on to gray when all the Oops paint at our closest WalMart started getting tinted gray before going on the shelf.
Apparently, people didn't like their paint color enough to pay full price and were going back and buying it marked down...lil' sneaks. So WM started tinting it all variations of gray.
There was Grey...for the fancy types.
And Gray for they average types. And of course Greige ...for the paint palette challenged...such as myself!
I love your new dining paint...and that handy-dandy paint tray too!
~Corn
I love the color Bliss, love those pretty columns too!!
ReplyDeleteNice shade of grey. Love that paint tray idea.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors and I love the white trim. Looks especially nice with your stone.
ReplyDeleteI love the color you used!!
ReplyDeleteI know whatcha mean about completing projects. BTW...I used SW Perfect Greige in my basement den because well it's....perfect!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that color with the stone! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteI love that Spaulding Grey! Still trying to convince myself to paint my bedroom mint! Color is so hard... :)

Hee, hee, you always crack me up. Your walls are beautiful by the way. Love the paint tray idea, but we don't even have any antifreeze jugs here. I think we maybe had one freeze this year. Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeletegirl, you just make my day ...
ReplyDeletelately I have hardly the time to pee let alone leave comments ... but I think about each and every lady that I've met along the way the last seven years ...
your taste is impeccable
First let me take a moment to revel in looking at that fabulous picture of you! For awhile, I wasn't sure if you truly existed - like the mythical Sasquatch!
ReplyDeleteNow, onto that paint color which I love. And the fact you used your womanly wiles to have your hubby paint the trim (I can just imagine what you had to give him to do that)!
And your impromptu paint tray - you are a genius (glad you didn't use one of your vintage aluminum platters!
Kelly
I LOVE the paint colors! Also, I think that method of choosing paint would work well for me. I'm always surprised when the paint hit the wall~it never looks the way I think it will.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great paint tray, too. No need to clean it out. :)
Lookin good Miss Bliss. You really don't have any walls in your dining room...
ReplyDeleteThat color will be lovely. I think I need a man who can paint my trim...
Gor-ge-ous color!
ReplyDeleteNow...
COME TO MY HOUSE :)
Just teasing, hope you are feeling better!!
You are a stinkin genius!!! What a great idea...pinning this :)
