When her #2 kid welcomed #2 son into the world I set out to make a rustic gift for new little blue bundles' woodland themed nursery.
Brawn had some boards from a 100 year old Minnesota granary that were perfect. The board he used was from the ceiling and hard as nails to saw through but in such great condition you would never know how old it was.
Rustic and perfect with nail holes and deeply gouged saw marks, but the color was wrong.
I used some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White mixed with water and gave the wood a white wash then fired up my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the letters.
I can't take credit for the saying on the sign. I originally read the quote in someone's scrapbook, so I don't know who thought it up, but I like it.
I really like how textured the lettering is. Natural distressing, I didn't have to sand a thing.
I then went back in with a small brush and accentuated all the nail holes with dark paint.
The wood is really rough and rustic but I did wax it with both Annie Sloan clear and dark wax for the look I wanted while giving it a bit smoother surface.
The back has two lats with screws counter sunk to hold it together. That granary wood is so perfect for it's age, I love it and want to make myself a sign out of it.
From the stash in the garage came two heavy metal round ball knobs - strong enough to hang anything a little boy needs.

Pure Blissed to Perfection!!
Oh. my. gosh! Seriously?! That saying made the tears well up in my eyes. What an incredible, thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gift. Wow....it's perfect! xo
ReplyDeleteYou have a keen eye for detail and spot on painting technique. Another person would go with the Old White and call it good. Adding the blue and red (ever so subtle) gives the wood great depth. I'm stealing the dark paint around the nail holes idea! That little boy will realize the true importance of the gift when he becomes a man.

How do you apply the lettering?
ReplyDeleteThanks,

If you have a vinyl cutting machine you can make your own letters, otherwise hand paint it or buy stencils.
