I'm throwing it back 2 1/2 years in blog years.
This dresser was the second one I painted, and the second one I lettered on.
Yup, that's right I got a big 'ol letter "P" for Paint - from Paint U...niversity. I better buy a jacket.
I was at the mercy of what the lumber yard carried, and I bought some of the letter stick-ons they had. I didn't know that I could create custom wall decals online at Shutterfly by just uploading a specific picture or various quotes. How much easier that would have been then having to freehand half of those letters!
The dresser started out with very bad rotted wood, so I painted it solid white and purchased some black glass knobs.
It lived most of it's life with me in this simple condition housing baby booties, onesies, and tiny cuddly sleepers.

We picked it up at an auction I don't even know how many years
ago, at least 20.
The dresser has nice curved drawer fronts, so it was unfortunate the drawers are so shallow it only worked for the first 6 months of life before baby clothes outgrew it.

The original paint I used was called melamine paint. Thick, toxic, smelly goo, is how I remember it.
I sanded spots down to the wood with a belt sander, otherwise I would never have been to able to hand distress it with that thick goo it was wearing.
Most of my camera equipment is made by Canon or Minolta and the stuff needed a storage spot. After my dad died my mom didn't really know what to save so I inherited a couple Polaroids, and some lucky garage sale folks scored the rest, including all his old Kodak stuff.
I've had quite a few Kodak moments in my life, so instead of Polaroid, I chose Kodak for the dresser.
I kept the info authentic by using the original Eastman Kodak address in New York.
The dresser has moved around quite a bit - several spots for sure in my house and it just never fit right.
When Christmas was over the dresser went to a back storage room. I think it's time for it to make a comeback somewhere, or at the very least take center stage in this years window.

Best. Throwback. Ever. I don't think that I ever realized it had a curvy front. Too bad about that whole won't hold anything thing. I think a window display at Christmas is an honorable destiny.
ReplyDeleteFor sure in this year's window display!! I love the curves of that dresser!!!
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing that dresser years ago! It is so unique the way you transformed it. It's fun to hear the story behind it. I think it's great that you "rescued" it and gave it new life. I also like the old polaroid cameras you're using from your dad.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories project here. I thought I had been following along for quite a while, but I don't know the story of the "store window". Who's, what and where is it?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's 2 1/2 years ago, or that you keep it in a store room, shock...horror - I'll have it, along with the bar cart it's my favourite piece of yours.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth showing it off again !
I love this dresser too! It is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteStill one of my faves. :)
