Nothing I made anyway.
I didn't make the project, stage the project or even take the project photos.
I didn't buy the small furniture piece either, but I did supply the paint.
#2 daughter announced she was going to Goodwill with one of her BFF's and I wasn't sure when she left if she was on the hunt or going along as an accomplice.
It was both. She came home with this brand new Target nightstand thing.
Not much to look at if you ask me.
Now I know what everyone thinks when I bring something home and they have no idea what I think it can become.
I think the tag said regular price was $49 bucks. Her take home price was $6.99.
It's not enough for her to tell us what she wants to make, no she put it on paper. She sketched out a couple versions of what she wanted the nightstand to look like when it was done.
And she intended to build it herself, asking only for guidance from dad.
She painted it up in Wrought Iron from Maison Blanche Paint Company.
Not only did she use the Wrought Iron, she used it up. All gone, no more, kaput - the can was dry to the bottom, so hopefully I don't have anything I need to touch up.
She wanted it just a bit taller at the bottom and for the top to be raised...... so she cut little blocks of wood to screw into the corners and on the bottom to raise it up under the silver feet.
I think she just wanted to show me up, because you know.... I shout out dimensions and have someone else cut wood for me.
She's probably planning a blog takeover since I've been slacking lately.
Her plan called for a planked look with the pine sort of a whitewash color.
She got directions from dad on using the saw and nail gun, and how to change drill bits.
She made the door to match and drilled some hardware on, that I bought new for a project last fall, that seems to be in no danger of completion anytime soon.
Wanna bet when I do decide to tackle that project I've forgotten I'm two hinges short?
I know the knob was from something I picked up last summer at a garage sale, but I can't remember what. I think there were a few of them, and I used some on a project as well.
Can't remember what my project was either.
Her friend couldn't believe the before and after and that she had redid it herself.
The size was perfect next to a bed in a small bedroom.
I seriously doubt she had any idea those Readers Digest Books are older than she is.
Last week #2 daughter also flew out the door to go shopping with the same friend saying, "I'm gonna go buy some succulents".
Ooooooohhhh Kaaayyyy - succulents seemed a random thought to me.
But buy succulents she did. Then she potted them.
She had also picked up a couple vases at Goodwill.... stones from the yard, and she informed me "the correct soil for succulents".
But as she placed her succulents on the table she declared, "I should have taken pictures of making them huh?".
Well yeah, if you want to retire me from my blog with the non-hostile takeover, you need to always take pictures of the process.
And me? Well I'm thrilled to have a post that all I had to do was type about.
The nightstand went to live at a friends house who lives in a small upstairs apartment in a trendy area of Minneapolis with big old houses turned into apartments on three levels.
And the succulents live in the family room with a plastic mister next to them. If she's going to display the mister, I'm gonna have to tell her she needs to give it a makeover.
Awesome upcycle! Contemporary meets industrial! Love it!
ReplyDeletei wish my kids would embrace repurposing and upcycling!
ReplyDeleteI tell ya daughter #2 just may be as awesome as you. Wonderful design on the table.
ReplyDeleteHoly talented kid you have there! Great new look - very edgy!
ReplyDeleteIt's in their blood...how would it be possible that B&B's kids weren't master craftsmen, too?
ReplyDeleteAwesome job!
I LOVE that project...now it has a great industrial modern vibe...
ReplyDeleteOoo lawd! Looks like *someone* wants to give you a run for your money! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI definitely see a blog takeover in your future ... Great job daughter #2! I'm impressed!
ReplyDelete:) Linda
I see a blog takeover or a partnership!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, cute! Good work daughter #2.
ReplyDeleteLike Mother like Daughter! Yay! Really cute job.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your daughter must've inherited your talent for furniture makeovers. I love how that turned out! I think Target might ought to look at hiring her to redo some of their furniture designs. Her version is much better. I also love the succulents she put together. They're so popular right now. Hers are very interesting looking with the layers in the glass container. I can't believe she's not keeping the nightstand herself!
ReplyDeleteHoly mackerel, very creative and talented. You better watch for a takeover.
ReplyDeleteCindy
All of that is truly amazeballs. But...what's a drill bit?
ReplyDeleteAnd if you have a plastic mister, does he have a plastic missus?

If it's a hostile takeover ... will she just move you out to the barn ... or have you institutionalized?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking daughter #2 has been bitten by the bug. She's just dipping her toes in the deep end, but she'll be diving in very soon I think!
ReplyDeleteI love the new look, and color!
I'm loving the succulents too, they look fabulous in their new homes.
gail
Well the apple certainly doesn't fall far from the tree !
ReplyDeleteHoly cow - this is fabulous - love everything about it - from the color to the planks to the hardware - what a fabulous makeover !!!
Always love your projects!
ReplyDeleteSo creative! Love the whole new style.
ReplyDeleteAlways love reading your posts,
Deb
Well didn't she do an awesome job and photos to boot, I need to start training my lot considering how slack I've been
ReplyDeleteHire her, before someone else does!! And did she actually include an elf on the table in her drawings? Because that sure is attention to detail if she did. Which is a great thing, of course!
ReplyDeleteshe must get her awesomeness from her mother..(kids usually do)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great Hack/makeover/upcycle/redo/rechic LOL
Hugs,
karin
