Pizza Dog

I didn't think this hot dog idea up, someone else who needed a quick dinner did.

Or someone who likes hot dogs on their pizza..... which would not be me.

But this twist on the standard hot dog in a bun was too easy not to try, besides I usually forget to take photos of the actual great recipes I try and only remember when I'm putting the last fork in my mouth.

So I'm not going gourmet here folks.  Just like the recipe, this post was quick and easy.

Pizza Hot Dog

After I watched the video and read all the snide or funny comments, I decided what the heck I'm gonna make pizza dog's for dinner and then tell you how they were.

I like a good wiener roasted over a flame at a bonfire just as much as the next person.  But three foods I don't love but eat anyway are; popcorn, pancakes and hot dogs.

When I do have a roasted dog I prefer mine with chili, cheese and onions.

Anyway, I saw the pizza dog video on Facebook, and really it was pretty self explanatory, but I'm going to give you a play by play anyhow.

All I needed to pick up where the dogs and the buns.

Pizza Hot Dog

Hot dogs of your choice
Hot dog buns
Cheese sticks
Pizza sauce
Shredded mozzarella cheese

Slice your hot dog down the middle.  Cut a cheese stick in half and tuck part in the center of your dog.

My cheese looks like plastic in this picture or like something that comes in an applicator.  Hmmm appetizing....

Pizza Hot Dog

Load the franks in their bun.

Add pizza sauce.

Pizza Hot Dog

Top with mozzarella cheese and pepperoni.

Pizza Hot Dog

I baked the first two at 400 for 10 minutes and then a couple minutes under the broiler.

Pizza Hot Dog

I started out making two pizza dogs and used the son who had to go to play practice as the guinea pig.

He liked the first one enough to eat the second one which was going to be mine.

So I made four more for the rest of us.

Pizza Hot Dog

Now I know you think I eat lobster and steak every night prepared for me by my chef, but I'm not above trying out the latest fad.

Please, someone make lobster the latest fad next week.

I probably try a recipe from my Pinterest boards once a week, which if you are not following along on Pinterest you should be.  I pin cool stuff.

I didn't pin this recipe, I mean if I ever want to make it again I don't think I'll need to refer back to it.

So here is the family review.....

The consensus was they were fine, maybe more so if you like hot dogs and pizza.  We might make them again only using italian sausage, or perhaps burger with seasonings mixed in.

The only thing I changed from the video was that I cut up the pepperoni so no one would get one big piece in one bite, and for the second batch I stuck the dogs stuffed with cheese in the microwave for 25 seconds before baking to soften up the cheese, it didn't really get melty in the first two I made.

As far as easy, they get a 10 rating.  I filled 'em up and shut 'em up!  I wish dinner was that easy all the time.  I'll tell the chef to get right on that.

  1. Yum..I need to try a veggie version of this!

  2. That cheese does look a little like big glue sticks, which kinda fits your diy theme. Hey, maybe the next fad will be glue stick-pizza, or glue stick-lobster, even better ;) I've never heard of pizza dogs, but these look fun to make for kids parties, game nights, movies nights, etc.. I've got a slew of nephews and nieces that would gobble these down in no time.

  3. you, I want my dogs with chili (only in the south, we put slaw on that). If I still had a boy at home, he would undoubtedly eat these. But I don't. *sniff* and now I'm sad. Because I have no kids. But wait! I can just take off and not worry! I can go to Belgium if I want! Okay, now I feel better.

    1. Ooh, say that slaw on top of chili sounds good. And I'm in agreement with ya on the empty house thing. But ain't freedom grand !! :)

    2. Ooh, say that slaw on top of chili sounds good. And I'm in agreement with ya on the empty house thing. But ain't freedom grand !! :)

  4. I'm with hot dog needs chili and jalapenos. I'm not a pepperoni fan, but the italian sausage version minus the hot dog, minus the pepperoni...I'd eat that. With that being said, if my boys were still little I think I would have made them very happy with these for dinner. :)

  5. I saw that video on Facebook and did a head scratch wondering how they would taste. Thanks for being the guinea pig and trying them out for us!

    :) Linda

  6. good call microwaving the dog first. I think I would just put the pizza stuff on the hot dog bun and skip the hot dog. I can't eat hot dogs so that's an easy call for me. You're right about the string cheese - looks kinda weird. All together, the whole thing looks pretty tasty. I like to buy the turkey pepperoni - not because it's healthier but I just love the flavor. Regular pepperoni is a little greasy for my taste. Now you've got me craving pizza and hot dogs. But a hot dog with mustard only. I love those.

  7. I have never seen anything like this! I had to laugh when you compared the cheese inside the hotdog to an applicator. :) I bet kids would like this more than adults though.

  8. Well now . . . not a hotdog household anymore, but I'll pass it on to my kids' for theirs. AND I'm goin' over to check out your PIN recipes. I have a feeling you're a "Quick, easy, get it done" cook like me ... at least when it's us that has to do the cooking, right! Hate to cook but ya gotta eat, so what's a gal to do.

  9. All of my cheese comes out of an applicator. What were YOU talking about? I eat about 1 hot dog every other year. There are so many other foods that will kill me that I like so much better. But I have to hand it to you...they do look tasty....

  10. A dog learns from every interaction it has with its environment.[1] This can be through classical conditioning, where it forms an association between two stimuli; non-associative learning so Dog Trainers in Northern Virginia is important

  11. Indianapolis dog training can be socialisation to the domestic environment, basic obedience training or training for specialized activities including law enforcement, search and rescue, hunting, working with livestock, assistance to people with disabilities, entertainment, dog sports, detection and protecting people or property
