However the tidbit from that post ties in with this one, so click the link above if you didn't catch the info about the "thaw".
We live rural.
That means we're not on a natural gas line and our gas is delivered via truck to a tank in our back yard that looks like a grounded Goodyear blimp.
The gas is called LP - liquid propane.
The LP guy arrives, pulls the long hose through our backyard, fills the tank, and we are able to cook and stay warm - two things we like.
If he's lucky no savage beasts are in the backyard waiting to chew his leg off.
Savage Beast
So I made a sign that will hopefully remind the LP guy to be careful when he enters the back yard.
He might just get what he deserves for leaving the gate open, and he can't say he wasn't warned.
I picked up this sign at a garage sale spending in the area of fifty cents, it's size about 8"x16".
I don't know how many years ago that was, and I don't remember what it originally said either.
I do remember giving it a coat of white paint last summer in anticipation of it someday becoming a sign.
Someday arrived before the LP guy had the chance to once again leave the gate open.
Before I continue I'm going to tell you what I've been doing on quick projects instead of using and having to wash a paint brush.
I picked up a bag of cheap blue sponges at the dollar store, you know for a buck.
There were 10 in the pack and I cut pieces off of a sponge as needed to paint with. I also use them for scrubbing sinks - so versatile.
This project got a fresh new sponge-coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Stirling, a soft gray, that became the color of the lettering I made with my vinyl cutting machine.
A coat of Fusion Ash is the background color, which is a nice darker gray. I sanded it for a bit of distressing and then sealed it with two coats of varnish since it will be outside.
I thought the sign needed a little design so I reached into my bin of old tricks and pulled out some ancient stencils.
I think these are from the 1980's, which would make them somewhere in the area of 30 years old.
Made by PLAID Enterprises, that crafty company who make all sorts of craft supplies.
Just for the record, from their list of additional needed supplies, I used a paint brush from a kids water color set and the same Fusion paint as the rest of my project. Thank goodness it wasn't all necessary or I'd still be running around the house trying to locate the stuff.
Anyway, I don't remember ever stenciling something in blue and green, the leftover colors showing on the stencil, so maybe I picked these up at a garage sale?
Don't know don't care, but the design came in handy to give the Beware of Dog sign a little something extra.
The sign has a little something extra with a surprise at the end, just like our yard has at Winters thaw or sometimes when the LP man shows up unannounced..............
I told you he was warned.
Hahaha, that's funny. In my lastest post I have a great story (at the very end) with my next door neighbor's kids, in a similar vein. Great sign!

ReplyDeleteOMG! You are TOO funny! First of all, I love the sign. You always do such a professional job. I think that sign will do the trick. I laughed when you said that the savage beast might get loose and eat people whole!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! Now if I just would get over my fear of my silhouette!
ReplyDeleteTotally laughing my pooper off.
ReplyDelete-andi
Great idea
ReplyDeleteOkay, you should be sued ... for not warning people SOONER, about that ferocious, pooping pug! I mean, what were you doing all this time? Oh yah, probably another one of your fantastic projects. Fine ... you're forgiven!
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect. I truly need this sign for my gate... I'm always saying "keep the gate closed"...
ReplyDeleteand for us, it's chicken poop. ;)
oh lawd...so glad I'm not the LP man! Is your tank buried or above ground?
ReplyDeleteSurely sweet and well mannered Mo is not the guilty party.
ReplyDeleteI refuse to believe it. Are you sure it wasn't Clementine?
So cute Bliss !!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever -- and I'm not big on bathroom jokes. But this one is good! :)
ReplyDeleteMo never struck me as a terrifying menace, just a squishy, lovey, sweet buddy I bet the LP guy gets a kick out of your sign
ReplyDeleteI am of the belief that all signs regarding doog poop should have special designs on them. Your designs are perfect.

ReplyDeleteYour specially designed sign is too funny and very well done, love the flourishes.
Boy did I get some great chuckles out of your post and sign. We too live rural. In MT we had propane tank sitting up for all to see, not fenced in at all, surrounded by 20 acres and lots of little ground hugging cacti, ouch, it's high desert up there. Our dog at that time would have licked propane guy to death. In KY had little black mini cocker who hated meter reader. Caught him getting ready to kick her. Where we lived out in country men don't expect a yankee woman to sass a man, too bad. Before MT and KY lived in liberal San Diego for 21 yrs. I was alone a lot in MT and KY as hubs was over road trucker, had to learn to speak up for myself quite often.
Thanks for chuckles and have great week
I'm always looking for inspiration for my hand painted signs - this is a keeper! That savage beast is priceless!
ReplyDeletehahaha LOVE your Beware of Dog (POOP) sign Bliss!
ReplyDeleteI use sponges for waxing, they are really handy!

You even make dog (poop) signs look cool. Thanks for the tips on using sponges for painting because it does make for quick clean up and using old stencils for that extra uumph!
ReplyDeleteWell of course I had to head over from Andi's place to check out the poop over here! Love it! (also love that you still have stencils hanging around as well)
ReplyDeleteAndi mentioned your sign, so I had to check it out. I love it. I need one.
