Hammered Aluminum Collection

About an hour ago I read a post over at EclecticallyVintage about Kelly's glass collection, or addiction depending on how you view your junk habit.  She called it "collectingitis".  At the end she asked what we collect.

Well I have more than enough junk put away, correction.... collections, because I view my junk as part collection and part addiction.  No matter how you combine those two words it comes out as a 'tion' at the end.

Kelly's question got me thinking, what do I have I might want to reincorporate in my decorating, since a lot of my 'tions' have been banished to darkness for many years when they just seemed like clutter.   Which of course was well before blogging affirmed that my junk is in fact treasures.  Right?

I went to the depths of helll, AKA the storage under the stairs, and I pulled out this box of vintage hammered aluminum.

I spread it out and counted..... 27 pieces of silvery metal ware.

With awesome detailed handles.

My favorite handles are like the one below.

I recall having this little letter holder on my desk for a while, then on the table holding napkins.

So now what should I do with all this stuff?  How would you display it?  I actually think there might be another small box of it under the stairs.  I do have a very naked mantel.  Hmmmm?

If that pile of junk is still on the table when Brawn comes home, I'm blaming Kelly.

  1. Would you believe I have a few of these pieces too! Of course you would, we both need an intervention!

Hang those babies on a wall - instant plate rack - with an edge!

  3. So pretty. I love your collection and think it would look great on your mantel. I am thinking an under-the-stairs storage would be awesome! I have completely run out of storage space all together!!! That doesn't mean I have to stop collecting though, right??

  21. That is an awesome collection Bliss. I had a good one going, not as impressive as yours, and I sold a lot of it when we were moving. BIG mistake. I kept about 4 pieces... looking at your collection I see so many familiar pieces.
    I want mine back... sniffle.
    Luv your collection of 'junk'.
    Cheers, Gee

  22. Those are great! I'd get them out and show them off! Maybe you need Brawn to build you some shelves or a cabinet to display them all.

  23. That's a beautiful 'lection'...that's what Grace would call it. That definitely needs to be displayed and not returned to to the depths of the basement.

  25. I have a "stash" of that pretty stuff myself...I used a bunch of trays for the Christmas centerpieces at church in November :)

  26. Oh so pretty!!! I hope you stash it all together as a collection. After being together for so long they deserve to be together still!

  27. Sure beats the Christmas tree and bags of insulation stashed under our stairs! Yes, I think a mantel display is in order. It reminds me of the dropping mercury in our outdoor thermometer.

  31. Those were in a box? In the attic?? Oh Bliss, for shame!

  32. You need to have Brawn build you a vintage window display hutch (like mine did) and put it all in there. It is too beautiful to have in a box. C'mon Bliss, don't put baby in a corner!

  33. I love this stuff! Yep, wall, mantle, top if buffet, spread the love around your home! Collections should be viewed in light, not hid as blight!

  34. You've been holding out on us, Bliss! This is AMAZING! Okay, prop some of the plates and platters up on your mantel and layer in a few other pieces with some greenery and a couple of candles. Viola!! Winter mantel!

Hey Bliss; Your Favorites would look Beautiful on your Mantel.....However, why dont you remake a Cabinet, or such and use it to house your STUNNING Collection of Aluminum and that way it could be out for show all of the time!!!
