Clothespins

What sort of collections do you have?

Me.... I've got all sorts.  Some I could part with, some I don't even like anymore, and some I can't get enough of.

How many clothespin hoarders do you know?

It's like I can't control myself.

Probably because I can pick them up so cheap.  I mean not too many people hang all their clothes outside any more, and if you do, vintage or antique clothes pins probably wouldn't be what you used.

So I keep buying them when I see them at garage sales.  They are usually dirt cheap.

I don't keep them just in the laundry room either.

They remind me of little people.  Maybe when a certain 3 year old is a 4 year old, I'll make a family of clothes pin people with her.

I'd like to make a pretty and feminine clothes pin bag like this one from Angie at Knick of Time.

When I decorate my daughters laundry room I will part with a few pins and send them to live at her house.

But till then I'll just keep them all over my house in interesting containers.

  1. Love your displays of the old clothes pins and the white gravy boat is beautiful. I have a few old pins and do use them when I hang stuff up to dry. They do not stay on as well as the spring ones ... but fun to use. I found some the other day for making dolls and they have a round base that slips on the end for a stand so the pin will stand up. Will not be making dolls ... but maybe something. Anxious to see what you and your daughter do to her laundry room.

  3. My grandma Hazel used to have these. I have the wooden kind with the spring to keep school papers together.

  5. The do look like people! And I certainly don't miss the days of hanging the laundry out on the line! Though, we never used fun clothespins like the ones you collect. Just boring functional ones ...

  7. Awww...sigh....sweet memories of the many many MANY summers on the farm I spent with my Grandma hanging our clothes on the line with clothes pins just like those.

  10. I like the look of those old fashioned clothes pins. Wish I had a cute laundry room to put them in.

  11. Your title intrigued me! I love the look of those old clothes pins. My grandmothers had them and it brings back memories of giggling together while we hung the laundry out. My MIL still has some of those in her stash. Maybe I can snag them some day when we go to visit and I can have my own little collection. And yes, they make excellent little people!

  12. I like them so much better in a jar than using them for their intended use!

  13. Bliss the only clothespins I own are the wooden ones I use for laundry. I am weird I don't put anything in the dryer but whites. I hang everything else. But I have seen these and I love all your displays, so pretty!

  14. They are so simple, yet they are beautiful especially the way you have them displayed.

  15. I love how you have them displayed.

  16. I don't blame you! They do have a certain sweetness to them!

  17. I don't have any pretty pegs because I do hang my clothes outside. I can't remember the last time I used my drier. Those pegs are way too pretty to be used to hang my boys underwear up :)

  18. I wouldn't quite call myself a collector, but I do have a vase of wooden wine corks that I've saved over the years. We usually drink cheaper wine with those plastic-y corks, so it's usually a special event if there is an actual wooden cork. I should probably start writing the date on them or something.

  19. I like old clothespins too - somehow they just go with all the fabric I work with all the time! I don't have a lot though - everyone around here must still be using theirs! Yours look so lovely in that big jar!

  20. I think I have one of those around here somewhere, but now I want more!! Making clothes pin people, you say?? I think a little someone who's going to be 4 would love to do something like that!! I'd love to make clothes pin people, oh yea!!

  21. What a lovely collection. I never can decide what to collect. So, I start and stop and still don't really have a collection of anything.

  22. You're right. You can find clothespins for next to nothing. I use mine to hang up my laundry, but I've saved a few for display and to use as props in my shop. Like your displays!

  24. I don't own a clothespin. I have, however, been collecting fat. I don't recommend it.

  25. Cute ways to display them. I love the rounded ones too, and I can never pass them up either, but I don't think I have elevated to clothespin hoarder yet.

  26. I love these old clothes pins. I never see them where I live! I once had the most expensive meal I have ever had in my life at the French Laundry in Napa. They gave each diner a little menu for the 11 billion course meal you were about to have with a clothes pin. I still have it. Once in a life time experience. I see little people with the clothes pins too.

  27. I've never seen the ones with the metal on them. Your displayed clothespins look great! :)

  28. I love your collection! You could create a little Army and play "knock em across the room"! I think that would exceptionally fun especially when I'm a bit "upset" with my hubby! Have a great weekend!~~Ang

  29. I never realized how badly I needed antique clothes pins until this moment.

  30. I have a couple bags of these too! I have made a Super Bowl banner with some, the others are still in bags. I should display them the way you have, it looks so cool!

  31. I just bought some of those and then found 3x as many when I was cleaning in my basement (throwing out magazines as a matter of fact). Occasionally I wrack my brain trying to think of what I will do with them. I love them.

  32. I love clothespins too. I didn't think about hoarding them. Thanks!

  33. I love clothespins....use them everyday...what you say, well, I use them to close bags of chips and frozen foods that are partly used. I have so many as I often hang my clothes outside....so why not use them for everyday?
