So today I started to get my creepy on.
Lest you think I ran out and bought birds because ravens are all the rage, let me show you a thing or 25.
Those black birds are expensive at this time of year.
So lets say last year you needed a whole flock... I don't know.......... maybe so you could sew them on a dress and resemble someone from an Alfred Hitchcock movie or something bizarre like that. You might find white wedding birds really cheap by the dozen and order those.
And those pretty white doves and love birds... well if you spray paint them black they make a decent looking ravenous black bird.
If you happen to have a bird dangling a plucked eyeball by a tendon, along with a skeleton head missing an eye - great - they will compliment each other.
Why yes.. yes.. that is my cheese-dome-faux-cloche (of which I now own three) glued onto a candle stick, and some free readers digest books with their covers removed. I know what you are thinking ...... my how crafty of you Bliss. I used the spines in a craft too. That would be BOOK spines, I'm not that creepy.
Plucked eyeballs are about as gory as I get but there is no limit to what I find creepy.
Now forget you saw this woman, or you might want to pluck your own eyeballs out. If you look to the top right, it's hard to see, but one bird has this poor ladies hair in its beak. On the left side the darn blackbird has plucked out her eye leaving her with an empty socket and little bloody bird claw prints on her dress. She won't be wearing that again, they pecked right through that 80's dress. Those birds must be revenge seeking friends of the crapping quackers that live at the ranch. But isn't that the cutest little vintage purse?

haha! those first spray painted pics look like someone spiked the koolaid...now THAT is creepy! Clever idea to just buy the cheaper ones and paint them! The movie The Birds still scares me!! Awesome costume!
ReplyDeleteI love reading your post, and you make me smile, giggle,LOL, or cry....and this one is smart...as a way to have black birds..and the last picture, I almost fell out of my chair giggling....
ReplyDeleteBlack birds you will not catch me with any in my house...my years at the mall, as a store manager of a Dillards...and in our neck of the woods we lived the movie....with crackles...or what ever you call them...from the mall across to the strip center to the hospital....black birds in the 100,000...and where you parked your car....never under a tree or tele line...and early Am getting to the store....You knew it was a nightmare 6AM peace and quiet nope....all birds sounding off...but I do love my raven here at the house...outside......again thanks for the laugh
Great idea with the wedding birds. Suddenly wedding birds are seeming pretty creepy. Not that I loved them before this, but still.
ReplyDeleteThose lovely white doves look so much better as ravenous ravens. My favorite is the eye ball eating raven. And, yes, that is an adorable vintage bag :)
ReplyDeleteOh fabulous! I love that raven with the dangling eyeball! This was a fun post to read. Spray painting the doves....genius! Glad you're getting your creepy on!
ReplyDeleteLove that eyeball...so great!! And your outfit. Bah...too funny! Um, yeah. I forgot about being booed. I better take care of that!
ReplyDeleteBliss, Bliss, Bliss. You are one in a million. You're making me want to haul out the creeps and bleeps. You are one inventive girl!
ReplyDeleteTippi Hedren would be so proud.
You're not kidding when you say you are into creepy! I'm afraid I do sissy Hallowe'en decorating. Great idea with spray painting the birds! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteOH Bliss...I love you with your creepy on! Painting the birds was genius...mad genius! AHhahahahahaha...
ReplyDeleteOh my, you have saved our day. I was ALMOST going to talk DD into waiting a bit to decorate (we have our Thanksgiving/Christmas with my parents tomorrow) but after seeing that splendid eyeball on a tendon, well... we must decorate!! Absolutely love it. The wedding birds are soooo much nicer and fluffier than the Halloween brand crows. Another brilliant idea my dear. (I was looking for one with KODAK stencilled on it's wing, but no can find). Thanks much for the inspiration and you have no idea how much Macy will be thrilled that we are getting our creepy on today. xo
ReplyDeleteYou are endlessly clever, and my favorite is the bird dangling the eye by the tendon. I want to be Tippy Hedron from the birds for Halloween, except she never got that eye gouged out. Maybe I should be Annie Hayworth. Poor woman, she didn't look too good after they got to her. "The Birds" is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies. I am thinking a scary "Birds" theme around here would be so fun! Or peckish.....
ReplyDeleteYou do creepy so well ... and why am I not surprised?
ReplyDelete:)
Linda
Awesome and gross.
ReplyDeleteHow creepy! For some reason Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" came to mind with this post!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day rock star!
karianne
Soooooo Awesome!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - that outfit looks eerily similar to the way Baby Jane dressed - don't think of cooking up a bird and putting it on a platter Please!!! lol
ReplyDeleteBetween that movie and the Birds I have seriously had a phobia about our flying feathered friends!!!
Awesomely creepy Bliss!
You have really got your "creep" on! I love it! Hugs, Penny
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! That is so cool!!!!!! Love it!!!!!! Like I said... The things you think of!
ReplyDeleteSo, Tippy, how many times a day do you jump when you see that skull from the corner of your eyes?! Love the costume and the eyeball toting bird, too. :@
ReplyDeleteGenius, genius, genius outfit! I love it. Just discovered your blog today. I'm joining up immediately. x
ReplyDeleteOkay seriously Bliss....you need to make your reservations now so that you can be here to help with our Haunted Halloween walk! FREE room and board.......LOL!!
ReplyDeleteCreepy and a tad bit twisted...just the way I like it!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if my kids would freak seeing a bird carrying an eyeball in our house? Only one way to find out mauahaha :)
Great idea re: the birds! I wonder if Alfred Hitchcock needed extras? Great ideas my friend!

Hi I just found your lovely blog, what great ideas you have I will have to tell my girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteThis entire post is made of win. YOU, are a genius!
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so entertaining and keep me smiling. You are too clever on the spray painted bird idea.
ReplyDeleteWow spoooooooky, creeeeepy, clever, fun and I love your skull and that blackbird with the eyeball.
ReplyDeleteI think Amy made the greatest comment Mrs B, and I love Maureen, saying she does 'sissy' Halloween.
I do 'diddly squat' Halloween !
So I'm really not a halloween girl. But about 5 years ago on a trip to Kansas City I visited my favorite shop (from when I lived there). It was October and she had practically the whole store decorated with these huge (expensive) crows. These were not the cheapo dollar store crows you find now. They were at least 9 inches long possibly longer and the flying ones had large wing spreads. It was incredible. Ever since then I have loved the whole crow thing. Still don't care much about the other halloween stuff, but I would love to do a huge bird display on my porch or something like that. NEVER thought of painting other birds. Silly me... your display is really fun - and creepy too!
ReplyDeleteThat is a bangin' Halloween costume!
ReplyDeleteI just started getting a little creepy around here and realized I need more black birdies! I love your clever idea!! That costume is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYes, the dead birds everywhere are a little creepy and the eyeball? Very creepy. Let's say you creeped us out.
