Glass Globe Pumpkins

Fall.  I  love  it.  Not just a little,  a lot.

I don't usually start to decorate till October, and when I do it normally has a spooky twist.

As soon as I saw the inspiration photo I knew I was going to make some of these glass pumpkins.

You can find my inspiration over at the HomewardFound blog where Deb took some white glass light globes, added lights, and made her awesome pumpkins.

And I loved them.

I picked up the crackle globes at a garage sale and 3 were turned into hanging candle holders on the dresser bar redo.  That left 2 for pumpkins.

Then I found this very heavy round dish to make it an even three.

Three's not even.  Ah ha ha ha ha ha.

On top I hot glued branches and a piece of mulch, some of that dried stuff whatever it's called, twisted some twisty twine, put lights inside, and presto changeo I have three glass pumpkin lights.

And I love them.

So why stop right?  I was on a roll. I stayed in jammies all day and made stuff.
13 dryer vent pumpkins.  7 orange, and 6 white.  Dove White spray paint in case you need to know.
And I love these too.
But the orange ones maybe not so much.  Two of my kids asked why the pumpkins were red.  They didn't appreciate the color orange I got.  So I might redo the faux orange ones.

Speaking of pumpkins, this week when I was running errands I had my camera along because it had been left in the car over the weekend.  So I took my time on my way home and I'm gonna show you some pictures from my neck of the woods.  I think it's God's country, at this time of year anyway.  In January I have other words for it.

If you stopped over my place and wanted to find a pumpkin patch, I could easily take you to about a dozen.  They are everywhere.  But I didn't see any white pumpkins.

There are barns everywhere too.  I decided what makes a good barn is the chippy old boards.  And the more it looks like it's about to fall down the more I like it.  It could potentially be free craft wood.

I couldn't get these horses to pose for me. I wanted them to look at the camera.  The horse on the left told me what he thought of that idea.  If you go by on the weekend this place is hosting polo.  When you come visit we could go there, but even closer to my house, like 5 miles away is this......

A winery.  You'd rather have wine than watch polo right?  Minnesota has lots of wineries and we have several close to us.  We've also got breweries but they aren't down the road.  Sorry Kirby.

We have apple orchards.  So many close by I can't count them.  Have you had a sweet tango apple?  Many cold weather varieties were born right here at the University of Minnesota.  They know cold, and they know apples.

And they know cows.  We've got plenty of these too.

I have to write a sentence or two here because I don't want the *Bliss* signature directly under the cow.  I am not this cow.  But if I keep making all the amazing recipes I've been pinning, it won't be long.

I have lived in the country all my life and I have to say, I now feel like I have taken all the beautiful scenery around me for granted. Enjoy your day, Gail

  21. Your pumpkins are adorable, but your countryside is heavenly!!! I'm hoping to get out this weekend and enjoy the color before the leaves are gone and you-know-what is here. How lucky you are to have orchards, vineyards, and livestock right in your neighborhood!! Looking forward to the photos.

  23. Your pumpkins are great ... I'm digging that dryer vent variety. I even have a crow ready to be perched on top!

And no one would ever mistake you for that cow ... even though you do have one on your sidebar art who is giving me the evil eye as I type this. She's making me nervous. Like she's saying "are you SURE you really want to say that?" ...

    :)

  33. Your pumpkins turned out nice! I have never seen one made out of dryer vent before. This is a first! Looks like you live in a beautiful area. I love the country! I live in a semi rural area. It has grown alot since we moved here. It was like living in the sticks when we moved to this area in 1989. No more though. They just built a McDonalds a couple of miles down the road from my subdivision! I would prefer a beautiful winery like you have.

  35. I love those glass globes made into pumpkins. Awesome! You live in a beautiful area. The vinyards remind me of Napa, California, one of my favorite areas. I agree with you. The more weathered the barn the better it looks.

I have to say that most of Minnesota is God's country, there are so many beautiful and mysterious back roads to travel. I love the cow, she is a beaut! I pass a pasture of horses and one of cows each day on my way to & from work in the metro area and their antics never cease to amaze me. One day I saw a grown-up cow drinking from the udder of another grown-up cow...must have been reallllly thirsty? And then there is "Smiley" in the horse pasture. He/she has a coat pattern that looks like a smiley face. Oh the simple things that bring us pleasure :-)

You do indeed live in a beautiful place and you'd NEVER look like the cow, not even if your pyjamas were black and white, but I love the way the plants make the cow look like she has lacy feet !

Who knows, we may even spot Snooki in the pumpkin patch!

  58. I covet your glass globe pumpkins. I looked around my house tonight after we chatted for some stuff to make them out of...the only thing that came close to being the right shape was an old fish bowl. Yeah, I didn't think so either. I'm going to have a look around the hardware store tomorrow. I also kinda like the cow. But if I got one of those, my neighbors here in Stepford would call the police. Will you adopt me? I'll bake sweets? xo
