Sun Room Window Box Fail

You know how one thing leads to another?

And sometimes the road where it leads to is to a road you should not have taken?

Well that's what happened on the road to window box FAIL.



Toward the end of last summer I got a wild hair to give my window boxes a makeover.

They just needed some fresh paint, but on that particular day I was feeling crafty.

Or so I thought.  Unfortunately none of my crafty bones were working that day.

I have 8 of these window boxes and since they needed to be painted anyway I figured I had nothing to lose.

Stripes, yeah I'll go with stripes.

Sure, I'll do simple stripes and be done.  Easier than painting the whole thing right?

Well one box was all I needed to see, to know the idea sucked.

Could I have done a worse job?

Let me answer that for you......

Yes I could...........

I could then decide maybe a basket weave look would help.

Wrong.

How ugly and sloppy is that?

How is it possible that from far away it looks even worse than this closeup?

So this one window box stayed that way till Winter passed and I figured I'd deal with it then.

"Then" has arrived -  it's Spring, or is it Summer?  Doesn't matter really because all 8 of the window boxes came down this week.

And this is where the "you know how one thing leads to another thing" comes in.

I decided they needed to be taken down because they are a bit shallow for plants to do really well.  Down they could be enlarged to a better depth.

But once they were down it was discovered that the wood behind them was rotting.

So replacing rotted wood, scraping, calking, and repainting began.

And now you know what?  I don't feel like putting the window boxes back up.

I decided once it's finished being painted I'm going to hang plants along there instead.

I should save a little money too.  Those of you with window boxes do the math for how many plants you need for each box if you want them to be really full and lush, then multiply it by 8.
