As soon as I saw these ice skates - in the heat of the summer - I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't wishing for the cold of winter right then and there. Today's high was 30 and soon the lake will be froze nice and solid and ice skating can begin.
But these vintage skates won't be cutting any lines in the ice. The best thing about them is the inside. Look at that awesome plaid fabric. I know a certain someone who would probably love to add these to her decorations, but they are mine allllll mine.
This was an easy project, it took me longer to hang the wreath on the door than it did to make it. When I made my Fall wreath {here} that I salvaged for .50¢ I also picked up a Christmas wreath for .50¢. All I did for this was cut it in half so it was more like a spray, hung some .25¢ garage sale bells along with the $1.00 pair of ice skates, and I have a wreath I love on my mudroom door. Total cost....... $1.75.
They look nice from the inside too.

ReplyDeleteWHAT??!!?? You have a MUDROOM!??! Some people have all the luck. *Sheesh* PS: The decoration is cute. I have some vintage skates that I am using in a project. Maybe even this year.
ReplyDeleteNice!! I had a pair of old ice skates but threw them out in one of my cleaning frenzies! Love what you did with them and the pretty plaid!
ReplyDeleteSusan
I love old skates. Great with the little Christmas swag.
ReplyDeleteI almost jumped through the screen when I saw the lining of those skates!! Wow..LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to have two pairs of old skates but I gave one away..still kicking myself about that! I usually hang them on a sled on the front porch but I have another idea I'm "pinning" over.
Perfection...love the inside and the wood look heels/soles. I would have scooped them up too :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great. And you can't beat the price!

Love, love, love! It's beautiful, Bliss!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so pretty Bliss, love it!!
ReplyDeleteTalk about vision! It's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea ... I actually have a white pair with a plaid lining as well, just a different plaid. Mine will be glittered, I know not right for the ranch, but right for me. They are going to be centered in a wreath ... love the look, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I have some skates that I've been wanting to use in a wreath also. I better get with it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Great decor for just a few cents ~ what could be better?

ReplyDeleteYou got swag girl! LOVE those skates with the plaid surprise. Must keep my eyes peeled for nice vintage skates. I'll try to wait until someone isn't wearing them to nab 'em. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool - who knew we both like to rock ice skate wreaths?! Love the plaid - guess I'll be searching for those next - why are you doing this to me!?
ReplyDeleteKelly
I love vintage skates at Christmas. I have not done them on a wreath, but I string mine together and hand them over my old sled and park them all at the front door. Your project looks great hanging in the window.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, so so cool! I love it ;)
ReplyDeleteI recycled my skates as a decoration. If my calculations are right, they are now vintage. I love the plaid lining and laces on yours, and attached to the wreath they cut a pretty picture indeed!
ReplyDeleteLove them....so did you skate as a kid, I was so lucky the skate ring was filled up in Oct...and frozen usually late November..School out and cut across the play ground and go skate, they had a hut with a fire pit.....to warm. It was perfect and from grade 2-6 I could skate to my hearts content...Now I would be on my well padded bottom...of the two pair I have, I really kind like the hockey black and white...they are so worn
ReplyDeleteSuper cute Bliss!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely GORGEOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteLove that you folks in the US love plaid, because that's gotta have come from Scotland originally, right ! We call it check, or tartan and if you're an Anderson like me, you can claim to have your own tartan !
ReplyDelete(Mrs. B, I'm sidetracking, because I'm so not ready to get Christmas stuff out yet !)
Melissa is right though, your wreath is super cute !
That is sooo gorgeous!! I'm afraid I would cut myself, because I am a klutz. But...it would be worth it!

ReplyDeleteStunning. Before I even came to read your post, I had this beautiful idea pinned. I am now going to be searching for my own pair of vintage skates. If only I lived closer, I think I could creep up to the door, without getting Mo's attention and snatch yours :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Bliss....I love how you have your skates displayed so that you can see it from the inside as well as the outside!
ReplyDeleteOh girl, thank you...I have some of these somewhere! They are beautiful inside and out :)

Those skates are just the perfect accent to your wreath! What a great look! Kinda makes me sorry I didn't buy the skates I saw a few years ago at an antique store. Kicking myself now.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Kirby and am so green with jealously that you have an actual and real mudroom that I'm having a really hard time falling in love with those vintage skates with that plaid lining and the amazingly inexpensive half wreath/sprig idea ... oh, and I failed to notice the fabulous photography too. Whoosh. Right over my head ...

This puts boring old wreaths to shame! Shame I tell you.
ReplyDeleteBLISSSS!!! Feet were in there!!! ACK, GAG! Yeah, but knowing you they probably belongs to some tiny little ballerina type skater with pink sparkle toe polish.
ReplyDeleteThey are cute!! Did you sniff 'em?
Adorable!! If you happen to notice that it is missing it may be because I stopped by to pick it up! ;) I am pinning this for inspiration!
