Man Overboard - Dumpster Finds

I recently mentioned that furniture finds have been making their way to me.

My kids, friends, and even strangers have started to look at discarded items as a potential project for me.

They probably think there is no way that a certain piece of junk can be turned into something anyone would want, so they drop it off at my doorstep to try to prove their point.

Or maybe it's out of curiosity to see if I can in fact transform the item.

My philosophy has become bring me your junk, if it's THAT bad that I can't turn it into a treasure, I know how to light a match, and we always need kindling in the winter.

But there is something special when the junk that shows up leaning on the garage was brought home by my own husband.

The very man that looks in HIS big pole shed that is stuffed with MY crap waiting on that transformation, who I worry feels like this trash to treasure bologna has turned me into a hoarder.

So when he brings the junk home, it's like an affirmation.  Sort of.

The same day I arrived home with nothing more than traffic cones from a day of thrifting with my pal,  I parked in front of two big barn style doors, and a couple windows I didn't even notice.

Not noticing could be because I'm used to various "items" laying around waiting on their redo.

With #1 son in the process of building a house, I thought those barn doors were something of his.

Nope.  Brawn saw these sticking out of a dumpster and went to have a look.

The windows were a bonus, so he hauled it all home for little 'ol me.

Notice that square cut out of the wood on the door on the left?

I have no idea about that, but maybe it's one of the reasons why they ended up in the dumpster.

The doors are made from new rough sawn cedar - seems like someone was maybe going to use them as interior doors.  They are not perfectly straight, so wouldn't of worked in the end as sliding barn doors and hence probably made their way to the dumpster.

But they're at my house now, added to the growing junk collection in the shed.
What should I do with them?

  3. Wow... you're husband is the man of every junkin' woman's dreams! :o) Those are so cool! It's too bad they won't work as sliding barn doors... maybe just like giant shutters on a large doorway?

  4. I would be totally shocked if Mr. Z. would bring me some good junk like that. Love the doors and I know you will find the perfect place for them. The cut-out may have been for an electric switch. I am sure you will find something interesting to cover it with or fill it. Can't wait to see what you do.

  9. Great find! I know you'll think of something awesome to do with them...and if you don't need them, they'd be great in your son's new place!

  10. How bout a desk/i.e. counter top. One door for the top and one door cut in two for the sides? Piece of glass or acrylic across the top, or maybe just resin the top. Geez, I don't know ... you're the genius at these things. My son just built a shelf unit on an old door. It goes straight up against the wall. Maybe you could A-Frame something with your two doors. Man, I can't wait to see this one :)
