Waiting for wax |
Painted again. Chalk paint.
And yet parts again. Chalk paint.
They are getting ready to join the table.
Lonely table waiting for chairs |
From the top of their carved chair backs to the bottom of their ribbed paws...
all six have been rubbed with a wash of oil stain over the chalk paint.
And every one of the lovely, but hated nooks and crannies has had the pleasure of my company.
Lonely chair waiting for others to be waxed |
The seat cushions have been leather-ed.
And one....
one brave chair has been waxed.
Yes blogging buddies, that can only mean one thing........
I STILL HAVE 5 MORE FREAKING CHAIRS TO WAX. (If they ever let me out of the asylum).
The fabric for the backs is here.
Purchased in the paint department. Drop cloth - lying in wait to become one with the chairs.
Before |
ever....
EVERRRRRRR......
want to redo six chairs, EVER... ever... again.
I will die a happy woman to never paint or wax another chair. EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

ohhh how I love chalk paint, but HATE waxing! woe is you! I'm soooo sorry! Just take your time...
ReplyDeleteon a positive note, the chair looks FABULOUS!
gail
Chairs are the worst!! But yours look sooooo good!!
ReplyDeleteI had to read this just after I told the Mr, we were going to tackle the 4 side chairs and redo the table top in a plank style. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe one that you have completed is beautiful! But I hear the 'I don't wanna do any more' lament. Because after I am done with mine... my DIL has asked me to help her with hers.
More loud crying!!!!
Hugs, Gee
Oh, what a job! Looks very promising so far.
ReplyDeleteWill we be having a get together to try them out?
i am looking forward to seeing this union! :)
ReplyDeleteI HATE painting chairs too! Your chair that is completed looks beautiful!! Happy Easter to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteWaxing is my least favorite part. The chairs are looking lovely and will be worth it in the end :)
ReplyDeleteOne chair is fun, two, not so much. Six, torture. But yours look wonderful and will give you a thrill every time you look at them. That will lessen the torture.
ReplyDeleteUghhhh! I'm so sorry Bliss... see, you just need 6 blog buddies to come visit you and we could each work on a chair!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you and when they are finished they will be fabulous!!!!!
Good luck Bliss!
Susan
You know it's going to be worth it when you do the final photo shoot and show us all of the lovelies together! Can't wait to see it. Love what I'm seeing so far,
ReplyDeleteDeb@LakeGirlPaints
These are going to be amazing! I tried refinishing chairs once and got to the first one, that's about it. Just changed out the seat fabric and I was done. I give you a lot of credit!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh LAWD....you had me all inspired! I was going to do my dining room chairs too! You KNOW how competitive I am! I admire your honesty.....I mean who would ever know if you only did one? Too late now.......now everyone knows you have ONE GORGEOUS chair!!
ReplyDeleteThat chair looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love it.
I think the drop cloth is going to be totally wonderful.
~ Pat
This just in...
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot.
I wanted to remind you....
You never EVeRRRRRR want to re-do 6 chairs again.
Ever.
~ Pat (a.k.a. CORN)
Your chairs are looking fabulous! I'd be happy to help with your chairs if I lived closer. I really don't mind working on chairs. Can't wait to see them all together with the table!
ReplyDeleteThe good news is if they never let you out of the asylum, you don't have to do another chair, everrrrr. You arms will be otherwise engaged in your straightjacket and you can enjoy the padded comfort of your chairless cell. Trade offs!
ReplyDeleteLiz
You tease. From the nooks and crannies you have revealed, your chairs look much better after.
ReplyDeleteOH, you know you will do more some day. Not soon, but some day.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have done your chair, what a big job.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. That's why I stopped after two coats of paint and left two chairs in the garage until summer. Your chairs have a very professional looking finish, so it will be worth it in the end!
ReplyDeleteNow. Do you think we'll all be stripping the paint OFF of our dining room chairs in another decade?
Ah yes! I know how difficult it is to paint one chair let alone 6! You have my sympathies. I know they will look great though when they're done. I've been busy making some paint changes too (which I will unveil soon) and it reminded me of how much easier it was in the planning stage than the actual painting stage. And you know once that paint brush touches your furniture/project you're committed! There's no going back now.
ReplyDeleteI have an axe you could use to take out your frustrations :)
ReplyDeleteThey are going to look amazing when you're done. Just keep telling yourself that.
Chairs are the worst to re-do! But they'll look gorgeous by the table when you're all done!
ReplyDeleteOMG they are looking awesome! I do not envy you the waxing, but the end result is stunning. (BTW, you don't ever want to wax 6 chairs again, just in case you forgot lol). Can you share what paint/stain colors you used? I might need to copy you (but only on 2, hehe)
ReplyDeletePatty
Feeling your pain I have said the same...and yet alas I go back. I really am not into pain but I seem to push myself their...I love can I say am envious I would love to paint our table and chairs...classic oak was my mother in law...2 leaves huge and 6 chairs but my hubby is a purist...so alas I play for others...again can't wait for the professional revel....will be simply classic
ReplyDeleteI will help to break you out of the asylum if we don't here from you soon LOLOL
You are getting them done, Bliss...and they are going to be SO worth it! Think of it as labor pains...not sure that helps any...
ReplyDeleteWow..
ReplyDeleteThat chair is beautiful. All of your hard work will be rewarded!
Blessings to you,
Tamara
Shhhh....
ReplyDeleteMy chairs will hear you.
I have done one.
Like {a year ago} <--whispered.
Hugs friend, stay sane :) Shannon
I'm glad to hear someone else hates waxing as much as I do! The chair does look awesome and you only have to do it five more times.
ReplyDeleteYour hard work looks AMAZING !
ReplyDeleteRose
i hear you. Not the most fun thing to paint - but Oh is it ever going to be worth it! They are going to be so gorgeous! Keep going - only 5 more ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's like when I paint a room and get to the windows and realize how much I sincerely despise painting the window sashes!!!! Take your time. And I can't wait to see how the drop cloth works out for you ...
ReplyDelete:) Linda
Oh thank you for my morning laugh...I so can feel your pain! And the other comments...some hilarious! The chairs look AMAZING! You'll be so proud when you finish! Whoohoo...way to go! Count down......
ReplyDeleteI find chairs to be the worst to paint. They are going to be beautiful, I can tell!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I understand your pain ~ however, the one chair looks gorgeous! IMHO, it will be a long time before another dining room reno. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it all ~
xo
Pat
So I'm finally catching up - and I see you've been using your time wisely. You will live you know...after waxing those chairs. They look amazing and I'm loving the way the table looks. Stay strong!
ReplyDeleteCould be worse...they could have spindles too! The pain will so be worth it when they all look like the lone waxed one. Gorgeous! Details on the colors please, love the way they turned out. Wax on, wax off....
ReplyDeleteSo, tell us how you really feel about painting and waxing chairs! If it's any comfort - they look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of a refinished table and chairs...but having re-painted close to 50 chairs over the last few years...I can't get excited about doing ANY more...EVER!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving those chairs! They are absolutely amazing! But I totally understand why you wouldn't want to refinish that many chairs again at once!
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are GORGEOUS!!!!I am feeling your pain. I am painting and reupholstering my dining room chairs too! LOVE yours!!! I feel it will take me years to complete~!

ReplyDeleteYour chair is gorgeous. Way finer than anything I have waiting in my garage. You've done a fabulous job.
ReplyDeleteSo glad my six chairs have no carving, no excessively curvy curves, nothing to make me feel crazy. But I probably will anyway. Six of anything is too many. But I'm committed now..........sigh. Can't just stop when we want to, can we? Must push on to the end. Maybe it's like having a baby, you don't really remember the pain when you stroke the new baby's cheek. Be sure to stroke your chairs and feel proud for producing such beautiful offspring. LOL
Just think of the calories you're burning... X 6!! It does look gorgeous now!!
ReplyDeleteI have not had the pleasure of working on redoing a chair ... now I don't think i want to ... and here I just got a table and chairs to redo!!! Ack! Yours are looking very good! Once they are done you will be so very glad you did them! (I hope!) :)
ReplyDeleteHugs
And this is why I hesitate to do furniture! Now if I could do half as good a job as you.....I might be more encouraged!
ReplyDeletecome on Bliss!!! You can do it, you can do it, you can do it!!! Even though you will feel like you never want to do this to chairs again, you will be so grateful for all your hard work every time you sit down and enjoy a meal with your family here. Can't wait to see it all!
ReplyDeleteOh My! You poor thing! The chair that has been waxed looks gorgeous but I know that seeing 5 moe waiting there must be maddening! It seems that chalk paint saves you some initial time with no priming or sanding (form what I've heard) but then you have that waxing part - oye! It sure does make a beautiful finishing touch though so hang tough! You'll get them done and can then sit back and listen to the oooo's and ahhhhh's of admirers! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteOh, dear.... we all know that if the siren calls you will answer it again! With the memory of doing these six chairs gone from your mind! LOL I know.. I've been there myself. Said "never again" but time passes and out comes the paint and wax! However, these chairs are just beautiful along with the table. Lovely transformation!
ReplyDeleteIt's the worst - the absolute worst - painting chairs - hate it too!
ReplyDeleteDoing a dining room set for a customer right now - and could finish the table and pedestal legs - the buffet and hutch and sideboard in less time than it's going to take to do 4 chairs.............
But WOW - did yours turn out gorgeous - so no I won't remind you not to do them again................
XOX
WOW Bliss that chair is beautiful and you did a very professional restoration. Six chairs is a lot of work, but you will forget about all that in time. Love them, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteEaster Blessings,
Audrey Z. @ Timeless Treasures
Sooo, I've been debating refinishing 6 chairs (seriously). Would you recommend it? bahaha. You are definitely helping me lean towards just buying new ones and calling it a day!
ReplyDeleteUgh chairs are my least favorite things to paint!! And I've never used chalk paint because of the added step of waxing! So even though I've never done it I feel your pain. But the chairs are looking good though! Real good!! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat is this with the incessant teasing! SO MEAN.
ReplyDeleteKelly @ View Along the Way
This is definitely the best house warming gift EVERRRRRRRRR!!! I can't wait till they arrive at a table near me!
ReplyDeleteHow do you wax in a straight jacket?!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Yes, I hear you. Chairs are a lot of work and every time I do a set to sell I say never again. Your chairs, however, are looking great. Hope to see it all together soon.
ReplyDeleteWax on, wax off Grasshopper!!
ReplyDeleteWink & hugs,
<3 Christina at I Gotta Create!
OMGosh, I know I am in love already!! Keep on waxing, I can't wait to see them all!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I HATE painting chairs!!! Even one... I avoid it at all costs...
ReplyDeleteThey gorgeous though, so that has to be sumpin...
Hi Bliss, your chairs are looking spectacular ---as always-I'm blown away!!! This sneak peak is WOW, but keep it up, we want to see them all!!
ReplyDeleteI painted a small chair like stool once. Let me repeat the word "once". Your chair turned out lovely - just think when they are all done you will can officially say NEVER again ;)
