A blog hop with projects from some awesome bloggers, a Fusion Mineral Paint giveaway for you to enter, and there is my project table that had a rough start when it entered the family.
Daughter #1 picked it up at a garage sale, last day - last minute of a city wide shindig.
The table with four chairs was $50 bucks.
I mentioned I could paint it up for her, but she probably knew if it came to my house for a paint job it might be two years before it went back to hers, so they lived with it the way it was.
No.
Unbeknownst to her I had other plans at her house while she was sipping rum.
So for the next two weeks her table sat in my entry way waiting for some inspiration and time.
Her instructions for the table were simple, "do whatever you want to it".
Whatever I wanted, included using the complimentary Fusion Mineral Paint I received - three colors to turn it into a weathered wood looking top.
Sterling, Ash, and Soapstone from the new Michael Penney Collection.
No one mentioned to Daughter #1 that on the way to our house the table flipped over and got all gouged up in the trailer.
The gouges didn't bother me, but they bothered her dad, so he sanded down the top, added some wood putty and fixed the scratches and bites that were taken out of the top.
I brushed them on in layers till I had a look I liked.
The paints went on nice and smooth with different tones and thickness depending on my recipe/ratio of water to paint.
I used the Ash as the back ground base color.
There are four chairs to this table, I stained one and sent her a text that I was going to let her do the other three.
It was probably the agony of remembering my own never ending dining room chair painting drama that made me not want to do all of hers.
The final step was to brush on Fusion Tough Coat Sealer which will give the table the added protection it needs to have plates knocking around on it.
Below is how the top looked before I sanded down all the layers of paint and brushed on the two coats of sealer.
Before Tough Coat Sealer |
All the little metal doo dads were added back on, I stained those too.

ReplyDeleteWow, way to update a boring table and chairs! Love the black and the studs!
ReplyDeleteThe table looks amazing! After looking at the Fusion Mineral Paint website, choosing 2 favorites was harder than I expected! But Prairie Sunset and (surprisingly!) Algonquin hit the top of my list! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteRight now the ash color in Fusion is the one that caught my eye. What a great give away. Thanks for the opportunity to try this product.
ReplyDeletei love casement and upper Canada green.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to paint the furniture in my sewing room, so really bright colors would be great. I also want to paint my two really old dressers in my bedroom which then I would pick out the color black. Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI like the industrial vibe that those metal doo dads add! The paint job really changes up the look of this set, awesome job!

ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this paint line. A project in Ash and Coal Black would be fun.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh... what a find! LOVE what you did... the layers of the top is such a cool look. She's going to flip with happiness!
ReplyDeleteI love how this looks! The weathered top is fantastic! I love that your daughter said, "Do whatever you want." I'm a fan of surprises, and what a great one this is!
ReplyDeleteLove the industrial look you went for! Great choice! I designed one of our real estate flips in industrial. Added industrial rails, used corrugated metal around the island and small snippits of it in the basement bathroom. Fixtures where galvanized steel with some crystal bling. Went with the original red brick fireplace and extended the brick to the kitchen backsplash. I wanted to move in myself! Lol! It sold fast so that's good. I could have used some of the great colors Fusion Paints have to offer in my staging. Love the Buttermilk Cream and Champness would have looked great used on the Paris end table I painted. Love all their color choices.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful transformation! Love the color too. It must have been so much fun to do whatever you wanted to do!
ReplyDeleteI finally figured things out. I'll just adopt you and then I'll have great stuff like this everywhere ... and for every gift occasion, birthday etc. etc. No wait ... would probably be better to kidnap you, then I wouldn't have to share your talents with anyone else. Yep, kidnapping is the answer. Gotta go now. Have to remodel the extra bedroom. Hhmm ... wonder if I can use copper bars on the windows. Iron is so out of style.
ReplyDeleteI love how that table turned out! I like how you did the top different from the sides and the chairs. I like how you can see the grain of the wood on top. I'm sure your daughter was ecstatic to have you do that for her! I don't think she will complain about having to finish up the chairs.
ReplyDeleteLucky daughter, she got a two for! The laundry room and the table. The story of the kitchen table falling out of the truck and it being the first table of the married life reminds me of ours....It was plain Jane Pine and cheap. We put it into the back of our little car and thought we could drive two miles straight down the road back to our apartment. It fell out about 5 times, in heavy traffic. But it made it. Everybody needs to have a thrit store or garage sale table to start with. LOVE the paint job, looks very Vintage Industrial now.
