Whipping Up September Thrift Store Decor

Thrift Store Decor is all about taking an inexpensive thrifted item and incorporating it into your decor.

You know, like taking a ten dollar gadget and making it look like a million bucks......or thereabouts.

Just for the record I don't own anything worth a million bucks, and if I did I'd sell it.

Sometimes I'll find an item and rearrange it's aesthetic with paint.

And sometimes all I've got to do is dust it off and bring it home, which is the case with Septembers Thrift Store Decor.

You will probably guess what this item is right away, but I can make fun of myself and know that you enjoy my light bulb moments as much as I do.

You see, I bought this metal thing at an antique store for ten bucks because I thought it was interesting looking, and nothing is ever only ten bucks at an antique store.

I knew right away what I was going to use it for, which couldn't have been farther from it's original use.

I didn't realize what it was until a friend asked me where I got "the beater".  I was like "huh?".

I had no idea what she was referring too.

This isn't a tiny little shelf decoration, it stands 20 inches tall, and 12 inches at it's widest point.

I could whip up a pretty big cake with it.

But instead I have it sitting high on a shelf and use it to light my fire.

You might see a giant metal whisk from an industrial sized mixer that the Doughboy or Betty Crocker may have used.

But I saw a candle holder, that is until my friend pointed out I had a beater.

I think it's a pretty cool whisk, and while I've been known to cook up a giant batch of scrambled eggs for my big family, even this whip is bigger than I need.

So a candle holder to light my fire it shall stay.  Oh yeah.

  1. hmmmmm, for those of us that don't cook much using it as a candle holder seems a sensible thing to do.

  8. Love how you used it Bliss. I have one, do not know if it is that big, but planned to make a pendant light with it. No time for that right now, so will copy you and use it for a candle. Maybe an inspiration for my Fall mantel.

  10. OMG, you've started a new trend. We're going to notice a cake shortage very soon because everyone is going to be putting their giant whisks on the mantel with a candle stuck inside! And yes, how did you get the candle inside? Everyone is asking.

  11. Oh, that is TOO funny! Now that you said it was a beater, I totally saw it! I wonder if the person working at the antique store wondered what you were going to do with it. I like how you used it as a candle holder.

  12. I love it as a candle holder! I've previously only seen them as lighting. Which is certainly cute as well. But a candle holder is more versatile!
