So what to do when you need a spring-ier looking mantel for a mantel link party and you have a dark old barn beam that your husband doesn't want you to permanently paint?
Make a faux front, paint it, screw it on.

Do you think this mantel makes my drop-cloth look small?
When you are done then have
an "ah ha" moment where you hit your head and say,
"Bliss, you do have another
mantel you could makeover". Why do I keep thinking I have to change this one?
In fact I have two more. One in the kids game room that is really a
lot like this stone one, and I have a white one in our bedroom. Maybe
tomorrow I will change up the white one. But for today, this got
Irish-eyesed. Get it? Irish-ized, Irish Eyes?

I just went around the house looking for anything that was green. Only had a few things. Wonder what I will put up after Saturday when St. Patrick's Day is over? The window stays.
I love every bit of it! You came up with a fantastic idea putting the piece of white wood in front of the existing mantel...who would think?! Your St. Paddy's Day decorations are perfect!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I love it! Fabulous ideas!Shamrocks grow on branches up there? Must be all that snow....
ReplyDeleteLorraine
Great mantle! So the hubby was OK with you screwing on wood on top of the rustic wood? That was a genius idea. It lightened up the whole look of the fireplace. Cute items in your vignette.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I can't ever get my red twig dogwood branches to bloom in lucky charms...you must really have a green thumb! I kindof slipcovered my mantle like you did and have been really pleased with the results. I did not however have a beautiful large beam to start with. Nice mantle. Have a fun day!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you are on a roll! How do you find time for all of this? Love the window and the tins!
ReplyDeleteOh this is neat too! Very springy and greeny and St. Patricky. Pssst - I want to see that whole room!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with the extra piece on the front. Love all your fun Irish greenery!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to cover your mantel with a different color wood. Now, if you change your mind, it's not a big deal. I like all of your Irish decorations. The little postcards strung like a banner across the window is cute.

I see the 'whisk' has made a return ! It's a very pretty mantle Bliss - how is Brawn coping with the holes you have made to hang your faux front ?
ReplyDeleteYour "Irish-eyesed" mantel has the leprechauns dancing a jig! Goes to show...there's more than one way to win the decorating wars with our hubbies! lol But is he OK with the screw holes?
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing your transformation linked to Time Travel Thursday. ;)

All that's missing is a mug of green beer! Love the little blooming shamrocks - any leprechaun would love to steal your gold.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to point it out - but since you mentioned it - yes, that mantel does make that drop cloth look tiny!

Okay, I'm jealous now. You have three mantels??? I don't even have one! It looks great! I don't decorate for St Patrick's Day or Spring for that matter. Maybe I'll have to start. Everything looks great. Love the old window!
