Well to me it's like the museum king of rusty chippy old signs, and I'm gonna take you there to see some of the coolest vintage signs ever.
If you are one of those people that think there is nothing to do in Las Vegas besides gamble, well you have probably never been there.
On our recent trip to Vegas, seeing the old signs was on the top of my to-do list.
Let me just say I loved it, and I'm glad I finally learned how to use my phone's camera or I wouldn't have anything to remember it by.
This is a non profit operation, and you can visit at night too and see some of the restored signs all lit up.
We got our tickets as a combo deal with the Mob Museum (also awesome) and the hour long guided tour was filled with little known facts and bits of Las Vegas and sign trivia.
Except maybe a few of the smaller random letters. I could find a spot for a couple of those.
They rent out the grounds for photo shoots, $75 for an hour, and they have another sign area not open to the public that can be rented out for weddings and receptions.
Yes you can even have Elvis marry you.
The King will marry you in the King of Sign Museums.
I liked all the old signs and even the old names.
Vegas is in the middle of the desert, so hotel names like Sahara and Stardust appeal to me and make sense compared with all the new boutique hotels and the names of them.
But to me vintage is cool, and everyone doesn't feel that way.
Silver Slipper sounds cooler than Linq or Encore if you ask me.
But they didn't ask me.
When I open my Vegas hotel it will be totally vintage right down to the slot machines.
I won't be bringing back Liberace, not that vintage, but the sounds and neon lights, and things that showcase the history of Sin City.
I started out looking for letters to spell out Bliss.
Then I forgot.
I should of had someone stand by these signs so you could get an idea of how big they really are.
Think big..... lighted marquee sign big.
The place is meticulously clean and our tour guide did an excellent job. When it was over I wanted to hang out and look at the signs again.
I also wondered as I looked around at the out of commission signs, if any of them caught the eyes of my parents on their trip to the desert in 1947.
Because they sure caught my eye.

That place is just rich with nostalgia. WOW. I get what you're saying about the new names. There is no history, it's all swept away for new, shiny-and-new. Some of the hotels are nice but if that is all you know, I think you miss a lot of the Vegas flavor. I've only ever stayed at the big new hotels. But not any of the boutique hotels, I'm just not that hip!! I just pass them on the tram. lol. That FOX was so neat. I love that you snapped it. I think I've watched too many old movies... I like the Stardust too. ~Shan
ReplyDeleteOk very cool trip! I would so want to go... and I want that big giant "S" too please!
ReplyDeletethese are AMAZING! wow! and you can see the scale because i spied a power line in the background of one of the shots that gave me an idea. senior portraits would be so fun here.
ReplyDeletePerfect timing! I am going to Vegas in April and would love to do something interesting like this! Thanks for the great tip!
ReplyDeleteThis place looks so cool!!! I would love doing a photo shoot there!
ReplyDeleteNow I really want to go to Vegas! Thanks for the tour, love all the signs!
ReplyDeleteYou do Vegas like I do Vegas, but I haven't been to the neon museum yet, it looks great. While thrift shopping last weekend I bought an ashtray from the old Sands.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Older is better. I would gladly give up a wall in my house for even one of those letters.

ReplyDeleteThese are neat. I would like to find small letters to use around without the lights. In my dreams, LOL.

You're right, definitely the coolest place to visit, if I ever get to Vegas..........
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! As a sign girl myself, this would be a most awesome place to visit! And I'm totally with you on the vintage slot machines. What fun are the machines now days where you can't even pull a lever anymore?? :)
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! I saw it on Storage Wars on tv and thought it was so cool that they saved these great old icons of Vegas! Love the one for the Tropicana Travel Park. I'm really glad that you toured the museum and shared pics. If I go to Vegas again, I'm going there for sure! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome place...if I get out there, I'll have to be sure and visit it! One of my fondest childhood memories is of traveling across country late at night...driving into a town and seeing all of the neon signs on the motels...
ReplyDeleteLove the signs!! I expect nothing less than a detailed tutorial of how to make your own vintage sign on a dime!
ReplyDeletewow! there's so much to do in Vegas! thanks for taking us along the tour with you Bliss!
