Spoon Hooks

The other day I posted a coffee sign I made for some friends that was a combination sign and a place to hang their hat.

Or if you read that post, a place for me to hang my purse when I came over.

Spoons just seemed fitting to use as hooks since the sign is in the kitchen and I use one to stir in my cream and sugar when I'm there.

And I had old spoons which meant I didn't have to spend money to buy hooks.

There are tutorials all over the web on how to turn flatware into hooks, so Google that if you want a step by step.

Basically you flatten it by beating it with a hammer, and then drill a hole where you want to screw the hook on.

To get the right curve, you bend the spoon handle around something the size you want your hook to be.  In this case, a piece of PVC pipe was the mold.

For the top hooks on the coffee sign I used those small spoons people pick up on vacation.

The small ones belonged to Betty's mom which made them special and the sign more personal.

Betty's mom is Brawn's aunt.

Betty had given me a bag of spoons a couple years ago, so I searched through them to see if any matched the places I was looking for.

I was in luck - Betty's mom had been to New Jersey, of course Minnesota and there was one from the Eiffel Tower - George was stationed in France when he first met Betty.

A screw was used to mount the small spoons to the top of the sign, bent outward in a way that makes it easy to hang your hat on.

The Eiffel Tower spoon was too brittle and ended up collapsing under the pressure of the bending, so one from Rome was substituted.

You know the saying, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Here are the roaming Romans with their hats on.

They are retired now so they enjoy a cup of java whenever they feel like it.

So when I'm in Rome, with the Romans, I do as they do........

I enjoy a fresh hot cup of coffee, and hang my purse on a spoon hook.

  15. What a sweet friend you are!!! I absolutely love the spoons and the Coffee sign. My purse hold so much crap, I would need a giant thick serving spoon of a hook to hold it.
