Today when I downloaded the photos from my camera there were photos I didn't remember taking.
Because I didn't take them.
This is the second time that's happened this month.
My family is learning not only to save free furniture finds in case I can create something, but also when they make a project they are remembering to take photos.
I thank them for doing that because it's not really any work for me.
Then I saw a photo of a drawing, which was good because I was concerned about my memory at that point.
I recognized Moby and I knew I hadn't drawn him because the only thing I can draw is stick people and I don't even draw them very well.
Up next in the photo feed was the shape from the drawing traced onto the wood, and I knew somewhere lurking in the confines of the garage someone was making a wooden barn board whale.
#2 daughter was creating again.
And she remembered photos.
She's getting better at this blogging thing than I am, her plot to overthrow me must be imminent.
She traced the mammal on the barn board and used a jigsaw to cut it out.
She stained the top part of the whales body dark, and used a screwdriver to gouge out between the top and bottom to give it some depth, then sanded the whole thing by hand.
She wanted a rustic beady eyed sea creature and that is exactly what she got.
I asked her what she was going to do with her whale and she said she didn't know, she just felt like making a whale.
I feel like making lots of things, but I don't do it. I guess I should have her give me motivation lessons.

Love it! What a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very talented daughter ... very nice and I like that she gave it depth by gouging out the bottom. Maybe you need to give her carving tools.
ReplyDeleteFun! You need to let her have a post a week.
ReplyDeletethat is super cute! Very creative. :)
ReplyDeleteHow cool !
ReplyDeletePerfect for near the pool !

She is very good. You two could start a business!
ReplyDeleteHa. I need my people to do this too!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I am trying to finish our kids guest room....which is beach themed...and I have been looking for whale anything. This post came at the perfect time.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I love the worn, vintage feel of it! Thanks for sharing! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteYou passed on some very clever genes! This is way great.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! Your daughter is so talented. She obviously got your genes. If she added some hooks near the bottom of it, it could be a cute towel rack in a bathroom.
ReplyDeleteLove it! And how nice to have post photos just show up on your camera...
ReplyDeleteLove it! That's one talented daughter you have there!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh.
ReplyDeleteyou KNOW I completely dig this right?
MOBY.
She killed it.
Bravo ::: lots of clapping:::

LOVE her whale Bliss!! I lack motivation right now as well. Between the boys being at home and it being so dang hot I do not ant to do a dang thing project related.
ReplyDeleteThat is phenomenal I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteSO glad you passed on your creative genes to your daughter. Lord knows they steal everything else from us :) I love that whale and she just might over throw you! :) Keep one eye open at all times.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Karin
I love that whale! It's so nice that you have a daughter who shares your passion!
ReplyDeleteP.S. That whale can come to live with me if he's "homeless" xx
That's gorgeous! Geeze I wish I'd find projects already done on my camera!
ReplyDeleteOkay, this gets all kinds of points from keeping the natural tone look, to using a screw driver to define the whale and she's doing great with the photo process too!! She's has a great teacher ;-)
