The something old is a new to me thrifted item that once a month I'll spruce up. You know I like challenges whether it's furniture or some other cast off I can update.
The new is that I'm joining eight other bloggers for this last Wednesday of the month series called Thrift Store Decor, and I'm pretty darn excited to be part it!
Just look at this lineup.........
For my first project with these lovely ladies, I redid an old dusty wood clock that I picked up for five buckaroos.
It had a little bit of charm under the dust.
I taped it all up and started painting and sanding to distress.
I mixed up a custom batch of some Fusion Mineral Paint colors in Ash and Chocolate.
The back of the area where the pendulum swings received some Fusion Lamp White.
I spray painted the pendulum a bronze color and attached an old cow tag with some E-600 and a black thumb tack.
The open area was filled with some metal hardware cloth, also spray painted bronze.
I really like the look of hardware cloth, I used it in another clock makeover {here}. I also added it to the inside of the door on the clock face so it shows through the glass.
My handy dandy husband hand model stapled the hardware cloth to the frame for me.
The letters will get a coat of glue over to seal them on, but I haven't done that yet, not high priority. Maybe when they start to fall off it will move to the top of the list, but for now they don't seem to be going anywhere.
The door was painted in the contrasting Lamp White and Ash was dry brushed over the whole thing.
Leaving the vinyl right on my project gave it more of a vintage sign look.
Both sides say REPAIR....
But no I'm not going into the watch or clock repair business, although I do have yet another clock makeover coming in September.
I think the whole clock looks better, but I may go back and dry brush some white over the center part that is solid. I haven't decided yet.
The thing chimes on the hour, and really...... I don't want anything else that makes noise around here, so for now there is no battery in it.
My favorite part is the pendulum.

Oh my gosh Bliss, what a beauty. I have a clock almost identical to that. I received it from my parents probably 25 years ago. I made it over with a coat of paint. Not nearly as awesome as yours.
ReplyDeleteI really love this! Gives it so much character....and dry brushing over vinyl letters....something I'm going to try for sure!!
