OK, everyone chime in please, I'm looking for opinions. The moving items around on the mantel portion of this post is finished. Voting and opinions still welcome, but I'm not moving that stuff around any more today!!! I messed with the mantel this morning. One son is home sick and he had to offer up what he wanted to see. He wants the Seed Sign back up there. Last night after the sun went down the mantel looked too dark (see post
Mantel Take #1). I sent Brawn out to the back shed with instructions to find me a window. He supplied. So this morning I disassembled, and put together a mantel for take #2. Then I updated this post all morning with #3 and #4. The big question really ended up being
the seed sign or no seed sign?

I linked the Mantel Extravaganza to what else......
52 Mantels party!
Ok for me - please don't take offence !
ReplyDeleteI would turn the window, the other way, a bit to the left. Bring back the seed sign in the place it had, in front of the window, with the twigs to the left of it as before.
Then I really like the box, with 'light' and number plate as they were before, and leave out the bird box and whisk.
Basically I like the height in the middle, tapering down, as in a pyramid, with nothing right to the edge of the mantle !
Wish you hadn't asked now ???

I wouldn't ask for opinions if I was gonna get offended!... so do I have this right turn the window so the grid is going up and down? Running back to put it together your way, my son's laying on the couch sick, he's gonna think I'm nuts.

Just looking again - wish I could come over and play, then you could come help at my place !
ReplyDeleteJust thinking, add the photos back in (if in any way you tried my idea lol) because you will have spaces at the bottom, and they will keep it light !!!
You and Emily are great help even if you are not in my family room. You'd just get sick if you were anyhow, my son would share.
DeleteHahaha, you JUST switched it up on me!! I came back to comment and there was a THIRD option. That wasn't there before! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the third is the winner! I've made up my mind. I love the seed sign!
Both Fiona and my son must be on to something then. Going back for #4 after your suggestion for Valentines Day.......
DeleteI like take #2. My vote is to add back the white bird house from take #1. And the photos make is so personal. Want to come help with mine... oh wait I don't have one. I'm sure you could help with something around here though.
ReplyDeleteIf it was moveable I think I'd let you have mine. Going to make lunch. If I said I had to fry onions would you know what sandwich I was making?
DeleteI came to your blog via your comment on someone else's. What a nice blog! Love all your pictures and especially enjoyed the post about toilet paper. : )

Yay, I really like it, very balanced. No I'm not biased because you called it 'the Fiona'. So there's going to be another ?
ReplyDeleteBy the way - I'm not popping off because I'm networking !!!
I'm doing dinner early because the old geezer has a rehearsal with a band member tonight !

ooh lov-er-ley. The touches of red really make the twigs pop out more, and they're not hiding the number plate now. The photo on the right, on the books - I love that.
ReplyDeleteDefinately definately, this is the best !

I like the focus on all the beautiful things in take two. I like the window frame oriented vertically too, though. Love the old photos.
ReplyDeleteEach "take" has a different mood, but they are all nice. I definitely like the touches of red to balance the boldness of the seed sign. With the seed sign removed, I like the softness of Take #2.
ReplyDeleteI find that when I'm using a number of different elements in a vignette, I just play around with the positioning until it feels right to me. ;)

I love the Valentine additions!! You have perfected your mantel today and I'm SO proud! :)
ReplyDeleteCome do my mantel for Monday's Mantel Monday! I live in Texas (but judging from the snowy pics, you do not!), can you make it to Texas by Monday?! ;) ha ha, just kidding, of course!
That's a very creative display on your mantel. I think any one of them would be fine. I say let your child decide since he's stuck in the room looking at it the longest anyway. Ha! Hope he feels better soon. My youngest has been sick with an ear infection. Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting me too.
ReplyDeletei really love #3. i really like how yellow is the only color i see.=)

OK I will be blantantly honest with you whether you like it or not. Numero 2 girlfriend! The others are over the top BUSY BUSY BUSY!!. Too much is just too much. But you've also got to pick what Mr. Braun wants too. (smile)
ReplyDeleteNann
Thanks for linking up!! I had fun following your mantel journey! :)
ReplyDeleteNow..what will you do for St. Paddy's Day? Easter? Mother's Day....Ha! Just kidding.
At first I liked take #2. Then after looking at it for awhile and going back and forth, the seed sign has grown on me. It draws my eye right in and makes for an interesting vintage fireplace/mantel scape (is that what you call it)
ReplyDeleteI also like the comments going back and forth with all the suggestions. It makes it fun! Now, please come on over to my place and help me out. I already know that it is time to get rid of the red accent wall and I can't wait to convince hubby to please, please, please let me paint the maple fireplace white.
So.. come on over and give me some suggestions. Also, it's extremely challenging to decorate my mantel because I have a corner fireplace.

Just wanted to let you know that I'll be featuring this at next week's mantel monday! I've got some vintage Valentine Cards to play with and I thought your sweet mantel number 4 would compliment that beautifully!! :)
