There were beams and planks, and even some tin.
The saw marks add so much character, along with the nail holes.
Saturday morning when I woke up, that little voice that likes to put other people to work on the weekend was talking to me.
It said "Bliss.... Blissssss.... you've always wanted wood shelves above your toilet, you must have them today". TODAY!
This is how the shelf above my toilet looked that fine Saturday morning.
Things that had been my mothers went to rest there 10 years ago and never got up again and left. You know, guests don't see this, so I was in no hurry to mess with it, or get rid of my mom's stuff at that point.
Till Saturday morning that is, then I was in a big hurry, life and death hurry.
The voices told me I needed shelves NOW.
Down came the 15 year old shelf that was suppose to only be temporary to begin with.
And before I knew what Brawn was up too, up went three new barn wood shelves.
The toilet paper holder box stays.
Most of the other junk stayed too, probably because I didn't feel like fussing with arranging things on the shelves, the voices only told me to put other people to work, when it talked to me it said rest.
I'd tell you the stuff on the shelves is only temporary, but since it took me 15 years with the last temporary shelf, don't hold your breath for any changes soon.
Maybe when I dust I'll move stuff.
Like I said, "maybe" when I dust.
I like the little glass jar with old hair combs.
It was stuffed in another cabinet, so I brought it out.
I used to wear stuff like that a lot, probably in the 80's huh? I know I pulled my hair up more before I had a triple chin that showed.
It's hard to take a photo of that area. I couldn't get far enough away to get all of it in, so if it is ok with you, I left out the toilet. As far as toilets go, it's a fine one.
Notice that wood shoe.... I picked it up for a quarter last summer and moved it from room to room never having a home for it. It isn't really comfortable to wear only one wood shoe. It looks fine there, so I'm gonna leave it till I dust.
I really like the new look, it warms the bathroom up and is a nice contrast to the white woodwork and trim.
Mostly I love that on one fine Saturday when the voices spoke, there was someone listening.

I love it! I've been wanting something similar in my bathroom that got "temporary" yard sale art instead of shelves 4 years ago. I wonder if the little voice would work on my husband, too!
ReplyDeleteFran
Love it! How lucky you all rescued it from the burn pile. Around here it seems all the old barns are purchased well before they get torn down...and sadly not by me. I'm channeling that little voice this weekend, wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteThe new shelves are much more striking that the white one. I love the the barnwood with the white walls.
ReplyDeleteOH those are some gorgeous shelves...no wonder you were in such a hurry! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou mean I should get rid of all my hair combs if I want my chin disguised? Done!
ReplyDeleteLove the shelves. Can't believe people would burn wood like that. It's sacrilege! They look fantastic!!
Someone listening is the most important part. That hubby of yours is a dreamboat and you can tell him I said that. My Magoo has some fine qualities, but listening isn't one of them. Looking good, B and B!
ReplyDeleteOh Bliss I love love those shelves....and the pretty displays on them!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE!!! the new shelves Bliss. You can't go wrong with barn wood. I like how you arranged them too. Now, how is it you get the people to do exactly what you ask on a Saturday morning??? I really need to know that one.
ReplyDeleteYour minions did a fantastic job (hope that phase is not offensive). It really changes that area up beautifully! Looks like that barn wood is quite a treasure.
ReplyDeleteI really like those barn wood shelves! They have a wonderful thickness to them that contrast nicely with the white walls. I like that much better than the other shelf you had.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness the new shelves look ah-mazing! ♥ them.
ReplyDeleteIt does warm the room up a lot! I love old barn wood. You've got a good team there!
ReplyDeleteImagine what you and I could dream up together, that we could get our hubbies to together - we 4 would make a great team! I love your shelves - perfectly aged! I pulled a big hunk of wood out of our barn tonight, and got my hubby to cut it for a project I hope to work on this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI admit I am wildly jealous of you having a shelf making husband. Really, really jealous. I feel better for having confessed and can comfortably congratulate you on a fantastic, new look for the loo!
ReplyDeleteProbably 40% of our items used in our home are from barn boards. I have a way to go,but I plan to use more, for more projects. The only "voice" I listen to is the Lord,so I will always have lots of ideas. Anyone who can create the world in such detail will give me what I need. God Bless you and your family.
ReplyDeleteIt's Saturday morning and the voices are telling me that you need to send me a couple of those barn wood shelves! They are amazing,ok just send me a couple pieces of barn wood and I'll get Mr. Refresh to listen to the boards ;)
ReplyDeleteDebbie
holy gorgeousness! i am in love.
ReplyDeleteLet's just hope that Braun doesn't try to quieten those little voices in your head! Awesome shelves!
ReplyDelete:)
Isn't it great that Brawn is a mind reader . . . and hears voices too! My favorite shelf is the middle one, with the comb jar, shoe and that pretty coppery looking bottle.
ReplyDeleteHahaha...you so funny. :P LOVE the new shelves!

Those voices are awesome! The shelves are incredible, too :D
ReplyDeleteThat's it, I've decided - if I ever meet anyone they've got to be a carpenter or they won't get a look in.
ReplyDeleteI always have little voices in my head !
The new shelves are perfect and very Bliss Ranch !
You dust? I should try that sometime. Got a tutorial?
ReplyDeleteThe shelves are perfect.
So much better, such a nicer look. (Nicer? I'm running out of adjectives, I think) I love it, rustic and your décor matches perfectly.
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)

It's so nice that your husband does all these wonderful things to your house. Mine grumbles so much, I don't even ask. He is handy on my flea market treasures though.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the shelves, I LOVE the wood, and l love the voices in your head, maybe they will visit me soon...? The blank wall above my toilet is jealous. And the Hercules powder box is awesome too!
ReplyDeleteWell I want to read this post but the pictures are not showing up .... so I'll be back. I think it is my computer...
ReplyDeleteYep. It's a good look. I hate just having one shoe. That sucks.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shelves, these shelves are attractive one. I have rarelly seen this kind of beautiful shelves. If i found anywhere to buy these kinds of shelves then I will surely buy them. So far I have purchased a shelving kit from here http://www.shop4shelves.com/
