Corn-hole Game #2

When I made a beanbag toss game last summer for our yard I also got a great idea.

Make some as gifts for family.

That sounds easy and doable in July, but by the time December rolled around I could tell with all the other projects we were working on that those weren't going to happen.

So instead I took the pair that my son in law uses and built years ago, and gave them a make over.

This is how they started......

It was a covert operation.

I went to my daughters house and she helped me load the two heavy boards in the truck.  I crossed my fingers he wouldn't notice them missing from a corner in his garage.

At this time of year with cold snowy weather, I was pretty sure the last thing on his mind was tossing bean bags around the yard.

I started painting and I *think* I wiped the mud off before I got to the legs.

I painted over the white that was already there to clean them up, then did a coat of Maison Blanche Outdoor French Blue, as a nod to water and sky.

I didn't want to repaint the red circles since they were already nice and round, so I painted the white and used the red as part of the new color scheme.

My son in law is an avid fisherman.  He's never met a lake he didn't like or a fish he wasn't willing to catch.  And sometimes when the fish aren't biting, well... you have to throw a few beers down the hatch.

So for the makeover I deemed it the "Lakes vs Beers" corn-hole boards.

Each board has a combination of Midwest beer and lake names.

My daughter jotted down a few of his favorite lakes, and I pulled the beer names outta my ...... refrigerator.

Bet you thought I was gonna type something else there huh?

I stenciled the letters on with a set of large letters, but I had to hand paint some of the words.

Like this Leinie beer that I wanted to look like their logo.

I whipped up a watered down mix of Maison Blanche Wrought Iron and Chocolate to make a vintage colored wash I could put over the blue to age it.

To finish the game boards off I put a couple coats of Maison Blanche varnish on for extra protection, and so those bean bags slide right across and into the hole.... when it's my turn to throw.

The game was wrapped up, and he opened his own handmade, well used, bean bag game boards, only they were sporting a brand new look.

I call it garage art.   I knew they were heading to a wall in his garage.

And yes, Totally Naked is the name of a beer.

In case you didn't get to see the boards I made for our yard (which are pretty darn cool if I do say so myself) I will gladly flash them for you...............

Now all we need is Spring for a healthy competition of beers vs lakes.

  3. The bean bag toss game (I think they call it holes here in Chicago?) was a head scratcher for me when I first moved here. And those boards are silly expensive!!! But you've made them look so appealing and stylish that I just may pick up a bean bag and play along ... :)

  9. Great job on those, as usual. That should make the game more interesting. Your son-in-law should be pleased. The other ones you made are really fun. Great job on those too.
