You know how you are so excited to finish a project that you hurry up to work on it and then you love the whole process so much you stretch it out for a year because you wanna extend the process of the whole mess since you are having so much fun and you don't want it to end?
Me either.
But Thanksgiving 2013 arrived, two more turkeys were purchased and eaten, and the chairs were completed.
And now 2 months later, January 2014, their debut......
My dining room chairs were anything but a fun process for me.
Remember {here} I said I'd rather gnaw off my arms then ever paint and wax chairs again?
In June's installment of the never ending dining room redo, I gave a glimpse of the graphics for the chair backs and the 600 tacks that first had to come out, then had to be straightened and put back in.
100 tacks per chair.
Yeah, Brawn's favorite part.
NOT.
But I liked the patina on the tacks, and I'm cheap so wanted to reuse them.
{Here} I ruined a brand new Egyptian cotton pillow case working on the chair backs, while simultaneously lifting the pattern and wax from my dining room table.
I also thought I would "help" and I hammered holes in my Corian counter top. I.D.I.O.T.
But I carried on, working into the night hand striping and sanding lines to mimic grain sacks....
Is that stripping or striping? I made lines. I'm too tired to look up the definitions.
I was so proud I lined up all six of the drop cloth backs before they were sanded......
I used the CitraSolv method from The Graphics Fairy on the chair backs to transfer the design......
I don't think I have mentioned how much I love them. I love them.
I love them. I. LOVE. THEM!!
I love the fronts, I love the backs, and I love them so much I don't even care this picture sucks.....
The drop cloth fabric worked perfect. We sprayed each of them with some 3M fabric protector, in case anyone with red velvet fingers touches them it will clean easier. (One of my favorite posts by the way, if you haven't read it and need a laugh take a gander).
Next to the ROOM # I stamped in the birth dates of each of my six offspring.......
Old Albert surely never thought his memory would live on and be honored on the backs of our chairs, but the old mill sack look is very fitting for the farmer that he was.
Some day you will see the whole room. This week in Minnesota with the cold temperatures, Helll was close to freezing over, but since that didn't happen neither did a dining room reveal.
The chairs are happily surrounding the table Brawn made, that he now needs to revamp so the chairs don't hit the legs.
Did I mention I love them? I do I do.
I think they are worth every bit of elbow grease I used.... and the blog posts I milked for a year!

beautiful! You should be very proud of yourself for hanging in there Bliss! Love that you put the birth dates on the graphic. I have never been able to get an image to transfer with citrasolv. I can't get a copy with the right toner. :(
ReplyDeleteThe transformation is amazing. great.job.bliss.
gail
OMG YOU FINISHED YOUR CHAIRS!!!!!!! Love, Love, LOVE the idea with the birth dates on the backs...and the patina on the tacks (and no, I haven't made "becoming a rapper" part of my 2014 resolution so let's just leave it there, shall we?!) Seriously...those chairs are gorgeous...I have 6 to redo...want to come to my house? xo
ReplyDeleteAnd so you should love them, they are A-MAZ-ING.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I thought the graphic was going on the front (sorry if I wasn't paying attention), but the finished result works way better. I love the grain sack fronts and can't wait to see the whole dining room.
Do your offspring like to sit on their own chairs ?
OH my gosh they turned out SO great, Bliss...really beautiful and personal and no one else will have chairs like those! It WAS worth all of your hard work! (And you know I am all about extending the fun as long as possible...ripping up floors today)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. It was well worth it, I do believe. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You worked so hard on these and it was totally worth it Bliss.... they are gorgeous! I can't wait to see them with the table..... so ... do you love them?

It's the end result that maters anyhow :)))

ReplyDeleteOH MY. Every project that you turn out is AMAZING and these chairs are no exception. Wow, what a great outcome. Great chair and I loved that you stamped the b-days on the back.
ReplyDeleteI love them too! They turned out beautiful! I can't wait to see the whole room reveal!!!!
ReplyDeleteI really love how they turned out! You did an outstanding job. I know you must be so relieved to have that project finally done and are happy with the outcome. I'm sure you had plenty of time on your hands to get this project done with the deep freeze that was outside your door too!
ReplyDeleteThe are absolutely positively beautiful! You had six kids? Are you Catholic? That means you were "with child" for a total of 54 months. (I'm being silly...you seem to bring that side of me out.)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Oh wow they're beautiful well worth the 2 years!
ReplyDeleteYay! They're done and they're spectacular! I was wondering how you were faring out there with the 'chilly' temps!
ReplyDeleteWe expect greatness from you. You delivered!

ReplyDeleteWOW. Those turned out beautiful. Definitely worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteLots of work but it paid off! Love them!
ReplyDeleteBliss these are fantastic!!! God Bless you guys dealing with all those tacks. I would have saved them too, I like the patina on them. These were worth the wait for sure!!!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I 'love' your updated gorgeous dining room chairs Bliss!!! It was so worth the wait :)
ReplyDeleteThose are simply amazing! And you must be the most patient woman around! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhen you do a project, you never disappoint. These are FABULOUS!
ReplyDeleteVery COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUnique, striking, fabulous! It may have taken a little longer than you had hoped to get them just how you wanted them, but isn't that how it's done when you want them to be just right?
ReplyDeleteThese chairs are gorgeous! Wonderful job! I can't believe how different they look from their before state! Wow! So impressed! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteOn a scale of one to Andy Dick, how weird is it that I have wondered about your dining room chairs?
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous, obviously. And since I didn't do the work, I feel comfortable saying it was totally worth it. (It totally was.)
They're actually DONE?!! I LOVE them. SO worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteSo worth the wait! You really hit the nail on the head with these Bliss, they are simply stunning!! I love the faded grain sack look and the colors!! YOU ARE AMAZING!! I love them too!
ReplyDeleteMost excellent my dear Bliss. They look great! And I'm happy for you that you're done. I can't believe that Braun did all those tacks for you. That's pretty special - makes up for a few of his silly man traits.
ReplyDeleteOh, my stars! You did an amazing amount of work...and it all looks perfect. Heck, one chair of tacks and I'd be pulling my hair out! Thanks so much for sharing this project at Thrifty Life Thursday, Bliss.
ReplyDeleteOh Bliss, they are so, so beautiful!!!!!!!!!! And you are too, too funny! Seriously, that is one of the best makeovers I've ever seen, and since I didn't have to do the work, I can sit back and say it was all definitely worth it! LOVE!!!!!
ReplyDelete-andi
Imagine the most expensive chairs you could buy in all of the land..... these are better.
ReplyDeleteI love those and wow sounds like things I would do. Glad I'm not alone.
ReplyDeleteBliss, that is the best makeover I have every seen. The paint and waxing job is the best and love the new covers on the backs. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Audrey Z. @ Timeless Treasures
Hey girl, you were featured at Revisionary Life "Thrifty Life Thursday."
ReplyDeleteOh Bliss - these are beyond amazing and worth their " wait " in GOLD ( pun intended lol )
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely spectacular!!!!!!!!
XOXO
LOVE LOVE them...so worth all that hard work!! I have yet tried to add a graphic to something...is it easy? I love the one you chose for the backs!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Your determination paid off. Great design!
ReplyDeleteI just found you through Savvy Southern Style. What a fabulous job on those chairs!!!!! And your dedication and determination is something ;-) totally worth it, I love them too. Six chairs is a mighty undertaking. Just became your latest follower. So glad I found you.
ReplyDeleteYou guys did an amazing job!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of the best remakes I've ever seen!!! I love your chairs, too!! Wow, they are stunning...absolutely perfect and worth every minute you spent on them! Fantastic job, Bliss (& Brawn!)!!!
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
Oh, and I had to pin this!!
Yay! They're done! What a great job you did on them, Bliss. They look fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteI want to celebrate along with you that they are finally finished!!! And I am feeling sorry for myself that I am so late to the party to say congratulations. Like you gave birth to another kid, and me, your friend called a week later to say by the way, congratulations ;( I love them, I really LOVE them!! I think you should mention how much your really love Braun too. He does the heavy lifting around here, except for the part of giving birth. That tops any heavy lifting and table alterations, tack removing, etc. That's all I got.
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this!! I was waiting for the big reveal...so worth it.
ReplyDeleteWow, great job. Love. them.
Deb

ReplyDeleteWow how cool are those!!! They turned out great!! What else to do in this freezing tundra we call home then paint some furniture- looks like the polar vortex is coming back next week so more painting on the horizon. Great job Denise!!
