Of course you do!
Along with me are 8 other bloggers willing to show you their upcycled, repurposed, or trash to treasure projects and then at the bottom link up your projects because we all want to see what you've been creating.
The Bliss Ranch Project - not to be confused since it's October with the Blair Witch
Project - is a vintage headboard I won at an auction for five buckaroonies.
Here it is in dusty glory.
It came with a foot board and this other spindley playpen like thing, so if you divide that $5.00 by three I guess I paid $1.666666666 for the headboard.
The devil made me do it.
I've had my eye on a headboard redo for several years, or how ever long it's been since Angie from Knick of Time and Gail from My Repurposed Life have been making them.
Now here I am in this little get together with those very gals. I must of rubbed my lucky rabbits foot.
But unlike Gail and Angie I don't sell my stuff, which means that I have to find a spot for stuff I make.
Mud Room bench BEFORE |
Don't you be laughing when you look at my mudroom bench.
No it didn't start out as part of a restaurant booth, but I am well aware that is what it looks like.
Can I take your order? Pie and coffee?
Don't lie, I know you thought that too.
It was one of those visions that didn't work out the way I saw it in my head, then that's how it stayed.... for 8 years.
One day I walked by and thought, "Bliss, do you suppose that headboard frame would fit right on that bench thing like a glove?".
What were the odds?
It fit.
In the blink of an eye Brawn had removed the foam and back black restaurant leather, so I got to work too.
First I painted the background with Maison Blanche Wrought Iron, a great black for letters.
If you read my blog you know all about Old Albert and how he sold us part of his farm.
Albert had no family in the way of wife or kids, so occasionally I evoke his name to pay tribute to him.
He is famous in my dining room with his name on chairs.
I used my Silhouette Cameo to make the letters, and I had some trouble with the vinyl sticking and pulling paint off in places. But that worked out in a good way, there are areas of black and areas of wood in the lettering and I like it.
I painted the whole thing with Maison Blanche white and gave it a coat of their dark wax for a natural earthy look.

ReplyDeleteWhat are the odds indeed! That headboard was made to be put to use like that. Great job on the lettering too. You really have pulled off the look, and no one will think they walked into a diner anymore.
ReplyDeleteThat was pure genius to add the headboard to that bench, Bliss, and it looks incredible! I actually have a nearly identical headboard. I painted it white, then failed to ever do anything else with it. I couldn't decide if I wanted to use it as a headboard, or do something else. Now, I know I need a bench for it!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how perfectly it fits! I love it. I'm intrigued by your triangular wall divider thing . . .
ReplyDeleteOld Albert would be so flattered! It looks great.
