#2 daughter started making these cake testers to help pay for gas to college.
She's graduated now but still makes them, mostly for fun and because I tell her too.
Each one is different and they make a unique, pretty and useful gift any time of year for anyone who ever bakes cake, or cupcakes.
I use mine, it works great.
Beth's motto is "toss the toothpicks" and she refers to the cake testers as kitchen jewelry.
I call them little scepter's because after all, I am the reigning queen in my kitchen!
Most of them are one of a kind. OOAK in Etsy-speak.
Her deluxe cake testers are made with beads from American lampwork artisans.
If you don't know how lampwork beads are made, Google it or watch a YouTube video.
It's similar to glass blowing but you don't blow the glass. Long glass rods are heated with a torch till they are all melty and gooey and then they are twirled and swirled until the glass become beads.
Some have raised dots, some are metallic. Each one is different and pretty.
There is not one speck of glue or plastic on Beth's cake testers.
Each one is hand beaded and the shaft is not a bbq skewer that has been cut or a flimsy wire or hat pin form like I have seen impostors use - you can't buy these rods at a craft store.
When you stop in at her Etsy shop, check out her reviews..... 5 stars. People don't give you that sort of rating unless your product is what you say it is.
Below is the one I will be gifting away. Done in red just in time to test all those delicious holiday baked goods.
Cake Tester Giveaway Bauble |
The bottom bead has a red core encased with clear and some slightly raised white dots. the top bead is red with an earthy swirl. All the little beads are glass and Beth uses two different sizes.
The whole thing is about 7" tall.
Your mom wants a cake tester for Mothers Day, she really does. Your BFF wants one for Christmas and that person you know who already has "every thing" probably doesn't have one of these.
Beth also has a blog page that she uses just as a front for info, she does not blog, but you can read about the cake testers there. (Do not leave a comment on her blog for your chance to receive a cake tester, you must comment here on this blog post).

Bliss you are a proud and glowing mom whenever you talk about your daughter's exceptional talent. The cake testers are exquisite. We are a cooking household here and immediate family (including the grands) calls for about 51 birthday cakes a year. Know that beautiful piece of kitchen jewelry would be worked to death at this house. Kudos on a lovely tribute to your offspring.
