No sewing - my kind of window treatment. Donna made it look easy. I fumbled through it, they are still hanging in my windows two years later, and I still love them.
But they needed a little something. Enter another tutorial I found at Serendipity Refined from Kimberly.
Back before Kimberly or Donna ever knew who I was, I was following their tutorials. I also don't reinvent the wheel so if you would like the full tutorial for these DIY enamel look tags, you need to head over to Serendipity Refined.
I started with some thin aluminum tags I had in the drawer and picked up some embossing powder at the craft store. I think it was in the scrap booking isle.
I followed the tutorial on Kimberly's blog -to a T- and they turned out awesome. I intended to make some more..... I'll add it to the list.
It's hard to see the gloss shine the tags have, but they do, and that's what makes them look like enamel or porcelain.
They were just what the burlap valances needed, random numbers that look like mini enamel signs as pull tags for faux shades. So don't pull them, the shades won't go anywhere.
I attached them with some ball chain clasped together.
I hung them in no particular order on the coffee sack valances, and overheard the in-laws asking each other "what's up with the numbers?".
Mission accomplished.

Super cute idea...love the valances and love the tags!
ReplyDeleteThose look great, Bliss...fun project...and some people just don;t get numbers.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to do this very project. Now I am definitely going to do it. Thanks, Bliss.
ReplyDeleteloved that the in-laws are wondering! looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI never saw the valances...cool idea and I know a place where I could definitely have something like this! :) The tags are the icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I had never heard of embossing powder but I sure want some! Wonder if I can get it in Canada? Perfect touch for your chic valances. I've pinned her tutorial and thank you for sending me there!
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen. Check near the "rubber stamps and ink" section of your craft supplier. :)
DeleteThey look really good, I'd like to try this too. I have been thinking about tags for my bathroom baskets so I've checked out the tutorial and need to see if I can find embossing powder.
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona, They usually keep embossing powder near the stamps and ink pads at the craft store. Good luck!
DeleteLOVE these! I pinned the instructions awhile back, and someday I am going to do that! (Probably summertime, when I actually HAVE some time!)
ReplyDeletehow fun. what's the embossing powder for?
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! You'll find embossing powder in the "stamps and ink" aisle of most craft stores. It's "usually" used over stamped ink designs and heated with a heat gun to make the design look raised or "embossed". In this case, it makes the tags look like enamel. It's cool stuff!
DeleteVery cute! Love it.
ReplyDeleteOh GIRL...you taught ME something! I'm so excited to know that I can do this with aluminum tags! The hardware store only has the rounds and I really wanted ovals for my pantry! You ROCK and I love your roman shades! xo
ReplyDeletethese are awesome and what a great use for them!
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty sweet! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. And too funny about the in-laws ...
ReplyDelete:)
Numbers make everything look better, even more so than birds 😉. Love your tags!
ReplyDeleteI can see the gloss! They really add to those cute faux shades. I'd get a lot of questions too if I started putting numbers on things around here!
ReplyDeleteI'm 2 years late to see this project?! How typical of me! haha LOVE your version and you're right, the tags seal the deal!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of your valances and tag "don't" pulls....I love the confusion of the in-laws even better. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the numbers, love the shades, love the paint color.
ReplyDeleteEither you get it or you don't. Your inlaws clearly don't. Love them.
ReplyDeleteThese are great Bliss and love the way this came together. PINNING!

Hi Bliss ... love that look on your coffee sack shades. I had bookmarked Kimberly's blog on this weeks ago, but just forgot about it. Thanks for trying this and sharing. Great look for tags. I want to make some.

Too cool! I love messin with the in laws too!!! ~~Ang
ReplyDeleteI'm making me some of these!
ReplyDeleteThe last sentence got me. Hilarious! I am sure my in-laws walk around my house with a question mark or two across their faces as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the valances but especially love the DIY enamel tags. Anything with a number or monogram gets me every time.
Love them!! Love the in-law comment too...I "get" it :)
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome! I'm going to have to check out both these tutorials...I've been wanting something unique to put up in the windows in my studio, this might just do the trick. I love them, and the tags are so cool!
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
once people start wondering what the reason for "that" is you know you're a true blogger. Love it Bliss I am wondering if I can make something similar on a larger scale for the kids room.
ReplyDeleteThose are really really cool! Got to go pin that tutorial!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I want to see some wide shots of your rooms... I feel like there must be lots of interesting things I've never seen before.
ReplyDeleteThese are WAY cool! Love your window treatments!!
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing at the in-laws wondering about the number tags! Our daughter's in-laws ask why she's got feed sacks on a ladder in her living room. What's with these folks? Don't they blog?! hehe
ReplyDeleteThe coffee sack shades are awesome! The tags just add that little something extra. Wouldn't want to take those down, EVER!
ReplyDeleteI think these look great with your ever-so-awesome shades! I love that you've created some in-law mystery regarding the numbers. Funny! I always follow tutorials to the tee and appreciate a good one. I'll go check it out!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to think of what to do for the little set of windows in our office. (Really, it's become D's office because he's finishing up his degree and he's in there all the time and it smells like boy now and he doesn't care if there are curtains or not..) But this could be a perfect solution!
ReplyDeleteVery cute idea Bliss!
ReplyDeleteI love how you used the tags!
ReplyDeleteI think this is my third time reading this post and I kept getting interrupted. Genius. :)
